Hi from England! Help with ARB lockers

Postby Zippy on Sat Jul 18, 2009 10:51 pm

Hi everyone,

I recently purchased a Mitsubishi L200 new shape (Triton). It is a 2.5 DiD 2006 Warrior spec with MASTC and super select 4WD. I love the truck and luckily so does the wife! (She drives it most).

I am a very keen off roader and traveller and i am in the process of modifying the truck.

I have ASFIR guards, Cooper STT tyres and really want to put an ARB locker in the rear axle. I like the traction control but love the idea of having the traction control under normal circumstances and the when the going gets really tough locking up the rear axle.

Heres the problem, no one in the UK seems to be able to help me with this. (I am a member of other l200 clubs but no one has fitted a locker to a new shape truck with MASTC on those forums yet).

So heres the first questions: which diff setup is in the 2.5 DiD Triton, 9" with 28 spline shaft or 9.5" with 31spline shaft? (I dont really want to pull a half shaft out it i can avoid it)

Does ARB make a locker that will fit the rear axel in my truck.

Thanks very much for any help, cant wait to speak to fellow owners around the world :D

MASTC is the traction control system fitted to the truck. It works off the abs system to help stop wheels spinning offroad and deliver drive to the wheel with grip.

Mitsubishi put this on the trucks without a locking rear diff.

It does work, just not as well as a locking diff. Good for getting grip when turning offroad though

It may be the wife getting out and giving you a kick up the butt, I hear that helps in getting up BIG Red.

Don't like the sound of the clunk T....unless it is lash in the diff when the auto kicks down a gear. That's what I'm thinking it is anyway.
I hate to advocate drugs, sex, alcohol, violence, or insanity to anyone, but they’ve always worked for me.

The new shape came out in the uk in 2006, the base models 4work, 4life all have a locking rear diff and easy select 4wd. The higher spec models have super select 4wd with M-ASTC (Mitsubishi Active Stability and Traction Control ) This is the system used in the shogun and pajero.

The complication is whether ARB make a locker to fit that axle?

What sort of axle do your tritons have?

Why couldnt mitsubishi uk have just given us the 3.2DiD and LSD or a locker like you guys ;)

Loving the site, snorkel on order!!

Again any help much appreciated
