Is the middle one meant to 'click' when you push it on like the other 2?

I might put a spot of silicone on just so it holds a bit better

No need. They click on like the OEM ones. I wouldn't trim the centre knob as the surround is quite small and it would be a struggle to turn the knob if it was any closer.

Keep in mind that not everyone bought the exact same ones from the exact same seller so there may be slight variations here and there.

I replaced my knobs today, used the previously mentioned fishing line method as my boat is next to the car it was quicker to grab the fishing line than anything else,
Took a lot of force to get the knobs out, so much so that when the knob came free it flew out and smacked me on the forehead,
The outer two knobs could do wit a trim if your fussy but really not required, the centre knob did need a trim as it stuck out a little too far and almost felt loose.

Since you mentioned it, I am now thinking of putting a little blue cellophane in the stalk of my knobs so that they light up the same colour as my instrument cluster

My knobs arrived.
Used fishing line, got one knob out but had to pull it really hard lol
Pulled the left and right knobs off with some vice grips. Much easier. Applied masking tape to my knobs to protect them :-)
