Exhaust Thoughts?

What are people's thoughts about exhaust for the triton 3' or 2 1/2' mufflers or no mufflers?
Anyone who has replacement exhaust any more power? Noticable?

I was at McChucks on Sat 2 weeks ago and while heading into the store I heard a lovely whistling sound behind me... Was a diesel Triton which sounded like it had a high flow cat and nothing else on it restricting the pipe all the way to the end... At a guess it was a 2½" tip sticking out but he was heading out and i couldn't get a chat with him...

As for power gains, a mate who used to fit exhausts reckons the cat sucks about 5hp, muffler about 5hp and resonator about 5hp - he's been known to be full of crap too...lol

I've read multiple threads and this old thing will do for my question

I'll be fitting a 2 1/2" system next week but I'm undecided between either running a resonator (exhaust guy suggested 2 :o ) or a straight through muffler :?

I'm not to concerned on exhaust note (or am I  ) but more the free flow of gases and any other benefits associated with this upgrade :)

Hopefully I can get a few opinions to compare and make my mind up ;)

Beaudesert exhausts in seq have done a trial and error for our tritons, 2 3/4 is the best size. I had one on for a few hours test drove it, i didnt notice much of a difference over the standard. I had mine on the dyno down there and it put out over 3 runs an average of 138kw and 421 nm with the standard pipe, with the exhaust it was 142 and 434 so not really much of a difference they told me 2 1/2 isnt much bigger then standard and did not let it breath much better where as the 3 was a bit to big so the 2 3/4 was the best bet. I wouldnt go an exhaust if it is a new car like mine as the zorst voids the warranty. I was told slighly by a guy at MIT to get a chip and take the chip off when u put it in for a service leaving no trace of the chip on the ECU when they run the diagnostics while its being serviced.
Thats just my little speel.

Depends on if you plan on staying legal. If ya dumping the cat, then may as well dump a muffler and go resonator. If ya keeping the cat, different story I spose.

Like the bloke above said, I'm not really sold on the 3" exhaust on a stock motor. A few of the exhaust mobs I've talked to also say 2 3/4 is the go. I would go a high flow cat and and a straight through muffler if I had the cash, only because I want the improved flow and don't care about the noise.

2.75" is the way to go, but its expensive which is why I went 3" also got it through a group buy on here.
When I say expensive, it was at the time when I was looking. And no one really did that size for the Triton, nearly 3years ago now.

I love my 3 inches.... Exhaust I mean. Sound isn't loud enough but the whistle is cool and it has helped the fuel

Have been running the Scott's Rods 3" straight through system for a few years now, no real noticeable difference in performance, but an awesome note, especially the whistle resonating from the snorkel as the the turbo spools!!
I think the benefits of higher flow have come after I added the chip and sprint booster.
Just remember sitting behind Steane at Wombat forest one day, listening to the gurgle of his and thinking, I gotta get one of those!  !

My impression though from what I've read on here is the 3 inch might be the go for the ML but for the MN it's not good to go so big. I don't pretend to understand it all properly, but that's the vibe I've been picking up.

2 3/4" is the premium size for the MN as per CD

I quite like your interpretation CD and like you from what I've read 3" is to big.

Garth is on the money but so far I've found 2 3/4 hard to get here on the flatlands.

I'll ring around and this will be my intended size so patience will reap rewards

This is the wrong size, but cheap, so i thought I'd chuck it in just in case:

There used to be a place on ebay based at Parramatta I thought it was. Snowman will remember because I pointed him to it ages ago and he said he'd been there before. I can't see them on there now but it was maybe something obvious like Parramatta Exhausts. They could be a potential option for you if I can work out who it was.

They are not far from me and I have had work done there before.

This is only the tail pipe and muffler. The dump pipe and Cat is another $395 and flex couplings and EGT spigots are extra. I was going to have a chat to see if they would do a 2 3/4".

I think Tony had an exhaust made for his, before the 3" Beaudesert group buy, from Sterling. Cant remember if it was 2 1/2" ot 2 3/4", but is was over $1000 from memory. :o

Maybe PM him

I think you'll find it was crap. He's had to re-weld it a couple of times.

Another place in the Wollongong area were doing a muffler replacement pipe, as per what Alco has done, for about $95.

This just replaces the muffler completely, with a straight through pipe, for better sound. I can chase for you Ken if you want.

I bought one of those muffler eliminators and it arrived today.
It's a shame there was a packaging issue because when I opened it up, the pipe was to suit a BT-50. :(
Now it's gonna cost me more to send it back and get the proper one.
I'll screw him on the price.

i went for a 3' scotts with a cat, the car helped tone down the "burble" into a nice low deep sound.

coupled with the chip, it does alright!

Fittement was perfect aswell, bolted up perfectly.
Only thing id like to see scotts do is bend the exhaust tip downwards to the road more, the back of my towbar setup is filthy sooty black snot... cant touch it without getting filthy.

Why should you pay for it.

They should send you the proper one for nothing. If they want the BT50 one back, then they can arrange a courier.

Ive got beaudesert 2.75", its the goods. Fairly quiet, mostly turbo whistle.

If your not tuning the engine up, don't bother... your just wasting your coin. You pretty much won't get any benefit other than lower EGTs, and on a stock motor its not a concern.

If in NSW chasing down 2.75" go see Tony's mufflers or HiTech / lambros. Both these guys have made a heap of exhausts for my cars in the past and specialise in full custom jobs.

They will sort it out, not sure on cost though. Tony will be the cheaper of the two.

I just had a full 3" system fitted to my MN no mufflers just a high flow cat.

Noticeable power increase from taking off to about 4300rpm, fuel consumption has gone up a lil bit but highway hasn't really changed still sitting on 9.0ltr/100km with the awing n racks on

My experience of fitting a 3" system on the MN has meant it has lost a little off throttle response. 1500 to 1800 RPM

The turbo does seem to spool up a little quicker though then boosts a little harder than it did before. They seem to only be of benefit when the system is at high flow. Putting your foot down at 100kmph to overtake gets you rocketing down the road very quickly.

Even with a muffler and cat it gets a little drone at around 60kmph. After a few years it will probably carbon up and choke down to 2 3/4" so will be ideal.
