Has anybody dyno'd this chip or is it all seat of the pants?

I'm going to ask another silly question...can I plug one of these chips straight in or do I need to do the EGR valve thing?????
Thanks

No it will run on its own and doesn't need anything done to the EGR

That's good I was worried I about getting one but after getting one having to do a few other mods to the engine to get the benefits out of it.
Thanks Cowboy

Im running a dp chip in my ute now. Had my 15000km service Monday and had to take egr mod/dp chip and K&N air filter out and the ute. It is just so sluggish and no power down low. such a different ute with the mods out.

Why would you take out a K&N filter just because you are getting a service???....it doesn't get changed at 15k anyway.

What setting are you running it on? I was told to start it on 3 for a week, next week 4 and lastly 5, Apparently it's the sweet spot. Told to edge it up weekly to help with fuel mapping

Ordered the "black one" took about 3 weeks to arrive, extreme easy to install took all of about 5min. only had it in for a bit over a week now and my drive to work going off the on board display went from average 8.6 - 9.2l/100km to 7.2 - 7.8l/100km my drive to work is only 20min no traffic or traffic lights, i would say i drive it exactly the same almost every day.
Power - this is extremely hard to say whether there is a power gain or not, I haven't noticed the difference in driving that being said i've only put 5000kms on it (glrx manual only mod canopy) and was more than happy with the amount of power it had. I tow a jayco hawk outback with it and was happy with performance before the "chip" haven't tried it since.

If i can fix the second gear take off lag i'll be happy :?: I think next purchase with be a windboost

Take no notice of the on board display mate, it's an absolute load of shit

Mine used to read around 12's and then after fitting a chip dropped down to mid 7's but at the tank I'm still getting 12's

lol haha

I believe it's called the placebo effect, Tom.

Ok, perhaps that is a little harsh, but given the way these things work, the gains will be modest at best. There appears to be a widespread dearth of hard evidence supporting the power/torque increases achievable with these chips.

Your experience with the trip computer misreporting the fuel consumption is to be expected although I doubt that you'll find that there has been such an improvement once you fill up again. If you can exercise the self control to continue to drive in the same manner as you did previously then at least we may be able to glean some empirical evidence on fuel consumption, at least.

Been running the chip for a month or so, almost finished a full tank of fuel with it in doing normal driving.

So far getting exactly the same fuel econ as i previously did if not a little worse. Shall have a definitive stat when i fill up in the next few days

Installed my " The Black One" yesterday after a short wait of only 2 1/2 weeks.
Pretty easy to plug in ... only took 5 mins.
Initial thoughts are that there is a modest increase in power, certainly not the advertised amount. Turbo does seem to spool up 100-200 revs sooner.
Will have to wait n see about fuel economy although combined with my new 9-mode windbooster is going to make that difficult.

For $160 I'm happy enough but I think best bang for your buck has got to be the Windbooster.

Filled up yesterday, not change in fuel econ, got 10l/100 like normal. HOWEVER, i did do some towing on this tank so cant 100% say it has not changed fuel econ. Shall see what the results of this next tank are.

Drove my mates 2014 MN dual cab the other day with the black one just installed. Big wheels, oztech suspension upgrade, ARB bullbar and rear step/tow bar. Turbo lag marginally reduced but once it kicks in it pulls like a bastard! 3rd gear with foot planted is awesome. Got my new MN couple of weeks ago and have just hit 1500km so haven't been giving it much, but the difference in low down torque between the two is huge.. Got the MK1 dominator with EGT probe from SPV Industries on the bench and aching to install it in mine. They say the poor man pays twice but if you knew your EGT with the black one and you were happy with the generic setting i'd say good value for money

Looked into this previously, seems a std tuned/stock will run up to high 600's on long hard throttle, and normal range in the 300-mid 400's mark, so as a max for short bursts tuned would think high 600's is some indication? AS for consistent every day temps, I try to keep mine under 500's, with ecu tune I normally sit between high 200's and low 400's, with chip used to sit between mid 400's and high 500's everyday cruising...ymmv

What would some people here prefer?

One of these chips or a wind booster?

What would you have more fun with?

I wonder how many people will say both!

A wind booster. But that's mainly because I have an auto and the acceleration modules seem to improve the drivability of the autos. Also I wouldn't be game to stick one of these chips into my car.

Neither. Get a quality chip and enjoy real performance gains.
