Got my Snorkel via eBay yesterday. The pictures online show it as being plain. When I got it, it has Ironman 4x4 on the side of it. The instructions are also the same as the Ironman ones. Would it be an ironman one or a clone? I would've thought if you were gonna make a copy you'd put Safari on it instead?

Tomorrow is the big install day.

Quick question. Do you use sikaflex on the back of the snorkel, or just the bolts with loctite?

Snorkel install today. Takes 3-5hrs they say.............hahahahaha.
2 of us worked from 10am till 10pm minus a couple of hours eating. wow.....so many challenges.
First time we've done anything like this. Happy with the job.

Just gotta attached the snorkel to the pillar bracket. Had planned to use rivets, but can't get the right angle.
A couple of things:
- Sikaflex is hard to get off your hands and sticky as sh1t
- Getting some of those nuts onto the snorkel bolts are a pain in the a$$.
- Don't put you bulb back in after the air filter and hose are installed.
- Don't use a blunt holesaw or new cheapies
- Don't use a cordless drill or an ancient high speed drill that starts smoking
- Don't transfer the coolant fluid to the new container and forget about the hole in the bottom...LOL

Great stuff Kouta! Took me about 6 hours! Agree with the sikaflex! Horrible to get off the hands but that's what makes it good to use!

Inside 102mm hole commenced


A little video of my outside hole attempt using a brand new 95mm downlight Bunnings holesaw. It just wouldn't cut. Was just making a groove. Once the drill started smoking, it was time for a new plan

So I drilled a heap of hole and used the dremel with cutting discs to do the rest. It was so much easier. Then just filed it all smooth.

Also....long post hey.....I had done for myself a checklist to follow, as after reading 4-5 different guides it was confusing me of the order to do things. Ordering is very important I found out. Hope this helps a first timer

Snorkel Install Checklist

1. Match up the snorkel to the template
2. Remove the mud guard and then the splash panels from under the wheel arch. Absolutely required. Provides access to all the snorkel bolts and hose clamp on the snorkel.
3. Masking tape side panel
4. Remove top cover of air filter
5. Remove air filter inlet hose (discard)
6. Remove coolant bottle (keep the screws)
7. Remove lower section of the air filter
8. Move wiring loom (remove indicator bulb if required, I did)
9. Attach air filter bracket (file plastic ribs, use sikaflex, drill holes 3x 5mm. Tried to rivet, failed, went with nuts and bolts)
10. Drill inside 102mm hole (cut/bend thick strong metal inside)
11. Screw studs into snorkel (using Loctite)
12. Apply template
13. Punch template holes
14. Drill outside 95mm hole
15. Drill snorkel mounting holes (multiple – 16mm)
16. Attach pillar bracket to snorkel (using Loctite and sikaflex)
17. Fit snorkel temporarily to car and mark pillar bracket holes
18. Drill pillar bracket holes (3x 8mm)
19. Debur all holes cut
20. Apply rust proof to all holes
21. Refit airbox to car (before the overflow bottle as you can’t do up one of the bolts if the overflow bottle is already in place.
22. Connect new overflow bottle (using Loctite)
23. Connect hose to snorkel (use sikaflex and hose clamp – tighten this one)
24. Connect hose to airbox (use sikaflex and hose clamps)
25. Fit snorkel to car using washers and nuts
26. Attach snorkel with bracket to pillar (use sikaflex, tried to rivet but the angle of the bracket prevent this. Used plugs and screws)
27. Attach snorkel head (use sikaflex)
28. Tighten all hose clamps
29. Sikaflex everywhere -to seal any gaps
30. Reinstall splash and mud guards

Well done.

My cordless drill started smoking too, I had to leave it and go do some grocery shopping, come back and drill some more, then have a lunch break and then drill some more That was the longest part of the process.
Definitely important to have a high powered drill when using a hole saw.

I wonder if the downlight hole saw is more for gyprock and timber and not really cut out (sorry, couldn't help myself...) for steel?

Correct CD. Downlight hole saws are just plain sharpened steel designed for soft materials.
When drilling steel you need a bi-metal holesaw. The teeth are usually cobolt hardened. You can also get tungsten carbide and diamond tipped holesaws if you are feeling flush.

Cheers mad. Slowly getting there. It's starts getting expensive now. ie lift/suspension, bullbar/winch.

Will just go cheapo options for now. Muffler eliminator, eBay chip, LED light bar are next in line.

Template was close but still out a bit. Make sure you apply it to the snorkel and mark the correct placement of the holes. Also, the snorkel itself wasn't perfectly unmarked. Probably just warehouse handling marks. Doesn't worry me too much as my car is a 2008 model. If I had a spotless brand new Triton, I wouldn't have been too happy. For the price though you can't really complain.

They are installing my TJM airtek next friday for $200, happy with that price. The next cheapest was $290!! Ill report back with how it all goes
