Domin8r exhaust special

Postby BillMcQuade on Wed Aug 17, 2016 3:22 pm

I have been looking at various 3" exhaust systems to fir prior to getting my ECUTEK tune done. Had a look at Domin8r, Xforce, Redback, Legendz, and a few others, and had pretty much decided to go for the mild steel DEA Performance system (muffler, no cat), purely on cost ($540 on Fleabay).

Domin8r was my first choice, as it fit all my criteria (Australian made, stainless steel, EGT bung, top build quality, no drone, very good reviews), however, I brushed it solely on price, as the best price I could find was $1300

As if by fate, I decided to have one last look around before placing my order for the mild steel DEA, and found that 4WD Supa-Centre have got a sale on the stainless steel Domin8r system $679 :!:

Couldn't get the credit card out quick enough

Thought I might share the link, in case others are looking for exhausts (the price is the same for ML and MN);

Yeah mate, that's the one I bought.

Interestingly, Mercury Mufflers, who are the distributors for Berklee, quoted me $1895

To their credit, they did say that retail outlets would be cheaper, so I can't work their business model out :?

Hi Guys,

im looking at buying the 3 inch domin8r exhaust to fit to my triton also and just wondering if i need anymore mods or tuning etc before or after fitting or can i just install and be on my way?

Also would this help with the horrible lag off the line that i get with the auto?

Any advise would be appreciated

Cheers

Hi Dan,

I don't know of anyone having codes thrown from the Domin8r exhaust, but that's not to say it won't happen.

I don't think that there is much benefit in just fitting the exhaust, I'm only putting it on to keep the EGTs lower after my tune gets done.

The best way to improve the drive ability of your Triton if "lag" is an issue. Put the money you were going to spend on the exhaust and put it towards a ECU remap.

A ECU remap with a standard exhaust is a proven 20kw and a heap more torque available from down low. Maybe $1250 ($850 part of a group buy to $1500 seems going rate)

Compared with $700 for exhaust and $300 for a windbooster which is the route many seem to choose. Maybe a few extra kw. Others also add a dodgy smoke box and still not 20kw and more torque

^^^ True.

A tune is money well spent. However, if you are planning on towing, IMHO you should consider an exhaust to keep EGTs down. Otherwise, leave the stock system, it's not worth the extra dollars to pick up a couple of kW.

Thanks heaps for the info guys.

After reading the posts I think i will save up a few more pennies and look at the ECU remap and see how that goes as i only tow a small tinny around.

I live in Adelaide and if anyone could recommend a reputable place i could take my wheels to get this done would be great as i will admit i am a bit of a novice in this area.

Thanks again

These are the ECUTEK tuners in SA. Have a chat with them, and see how comfortable you feel dealing with them.

If you're in Adelaide there are two options I would look at.

Simon at Morpawa and Martin / Gareth at Willall racing. Both know what they are doing and are very well regarded in the car scene.

I just had my car done at Willall and Gareth and Martin were really good to deal with. I ended up going a Unichip and tune but they do just tunes as well. Results are similar for Chip or Ecu flash. Mine ended up at 126KW and 550NM. I would highly recommend it, its like a different car now and much nicer to drive.

Morpawa is $1495 for an Ecutek tune when I checked, Not sure about Willall but I think they might be slightly cheaper for just a tune. I think you'd be happy with either....

Well, I just fitted the Domin8r stainless system, with CAT and muffler, as I wanted to remain friends with my neighbours (I leave for work very early). Quality and fit is awesome. Slight burble at idle, otherwise no change in sound. Is quieter on the freeway than the stock exhaust, with zero drone anywhere in the rev range 8-)

Boost comes on quicker, and EGT hasn't gone over 430* on the hills (is sub-300* everywhere else).

I wrapped the dump pipe and CAT with a couple of layers of exhaust wrap, and a couple of stainless clamps to hold the wrap firmly in place.

The pipe looks huge

No overboost issues, and I have tried hard to make it do it.

Very interesting, an exhaust may be back on my list. Need my canopy, Lift, rear bar, and ECUTEK to go in first

Hi, Can someone please explain what ``overboost`` actually is and why would this occur from upgrading the exhaust system and how would i know if it was doing this? Cheers

I'm putting this exhaust before my ECUTEK tune next week. It will keep the EGT down.
