New Triton is great...but the seats are terrible

Anything Triton related

I was just wondering if any of you guys that have the ARB bull bar have any spacers under your lightforce roo blinders if you have them.

The reason why I ask is when we recently drove over from Katherine and I was towing approx 1500kg of boat and crap, I noticed when the sun would disappear and i hit high beam they would point a little high due to weight on the back. BUT...

I jumped out to adjust them down a little, but it's not possible, because they slightly overhang the front they are already adjusted as low as possible.

I don't really want to put any sort of spacer under them, it's easy to cut a bit of ally to space them but I don't want the bar marked when I come to sell in a few years time, does anyone know is Lightforce do some sort of rubber spacers??

Cheers, Shane.

Im with you Mantis, ive got my lightforce 240's still sitting in the box bcos when i went to fit them i noticed they cant be adjusted down that much.

What im planning on doin is getting some alloy blocks and shaping them into the same as the plastic brackets, except longer.

Mine are exactly the same on the Ironman bar mate, never been an issue as they are perfectly adjusted without a load, but once I load up for a camping or fishing that will change :-)

I reckon something like insertion rubber, or even a neoprene spacer (like a shackle bush cut-in-half) would do the trick

Cheers

I'd say neoprene, rubber might allow some shaking and you'll end up with a bunch of pillin' roos trying to dance in front of your strobe disco. Either that or a cessna trying land in your way :)

New Triton is great...but the seats are terrible

Postby BarryS on Thu Jun 11, 2009 8:57 pm

Hi All,
I have had my new Triton for about a month now and its not a bad bit of gear.
But i do have one problem...Is it just me or are the front seats designed by Satan?
I have bought a lumbar cushion and tried packing the seat with a folded blanket etc, but that seat still gives me a back ache that would stop an elephant. Has anyone else suffered a similar problem?

Apart from that, I am pretty impressed with it.

Cheers,
Baz.

I was like that when I bought my Magna. Eventually I got used to them so when we bought the Triton the transition wasn't too bad.

  pretty much sums it up. some people here are ok with them but the general consensus is they are pretty bad.

my wife refuses to travel long distances in them (i.e. over half an hour) and for our trip to Canberra next weekend she will sit in the back seat and let our eldest into the front.

aftermarket seats (and bases) are very expensive. from memory Homer seriously looked into swapping with some other factory seats from more luxury cars but i think he hit some walls (i think he hits something else mind you - from about lunchtime ;) ). look here for the thread he was running on this issue.

monster triton sells these but consensus is they are illegal in most (or all states) in australia. see here;

The seats were my #1 complaint with the Triton - after my first test drive (an hour) I couldn't stand up straight for a long while..

Mitsu REALLY need to do something about it..

One of the fixes I looked at was a Racaro seat, yes they cost a bit, but they're very good, though you can't have the side airbags if you swap seats around.

I bet if you bought seats through the dealer from new, you could get a really good price on them.

I've got the Recaro "Specialists" in the front on both sides.
They are very, very comforable...but...
if you're a shortarse like me you will need to slide the seat right back every time you get in or out or risk crushing you bag o' spuds on the thigh supports.
I've gotten use to it but it is a pain.

Hmmm. I am not so sure about the abuse of the bag o spuds. Its sounds painfull but yet exciting. :D
I tried the spacers under the front of the seat mounts trick today. Combined with a new sheepskin cover and a cheap lumbar support cushion from SuperCheap, it seems a good improvement.(Well... I can walk tonight). I am going to mess about with a bit of wedge cushion from Clark rubber and see if that helps any more.

Its a pity that one has to go to these lengths with a new car though. It seems that Mitshi employ seat designers with "issues". I sat in a mates new Lancer yesterday and the seats were very similar in their general crapulence.

After 80000kms my driver seat is just starting to get comfortable .To bad I’m trading it in on a new one.

I found the spacers and thick sheepskin made it a bit better (after the sheepskin moulds to your shape) and the thin inflatable style lumbar support (deflated) as all other lumbars are too thick.
I alternate putting the support in and removing it on long drives and it is bearable.

Would like the coin for the Recaro's

I made up some thread extenders ( seat spacers) and this gives me 25mm lift under the front of the seat, completely different seats to sit in now, very comfy. Some of the boys on the brindies trip tried my seat and were very happy with it. Long trips are now a breeze, no more aching legs or back did the brindies trip plus travel to and from and no trouble. :)

I've said it before and i'll say it again, you are all either too old, or too fragile, or both. I find the seats fine.

I got the lumbar support cushion from supercheap aswell and it was way to thick for my liking, so I took to it with my large kitchen knife and that seemed to make it abit better. still looking into new seats though.

both.

i just checked your shed saurus and notice you have some nice sheepskin covers which may help a bit.

i just took ownership of some DID3.2 "thread extenders" (did i see you write 'spacers' there DID?) and will get them in this weekend. i will provide feedback as both my wife and i struggle with the seats.

'sauraus' did your grandmother leave that sheepskin steering wheel cover in your car when she borrowed it last.....?? :) :) ;)
