Hi, i have the warn 9.5XP with M.O.S.F.E.T control (solenoid free) wich i think is the best, but after many river crossing trips it started to fail because the warn dealer made a wrong installation leaving the drain hole filled with silicone  I had to replace the motor and now it was properly fitted. As an advice please Check your winch motor drain holes.

So i picked up a Runva 9.5 winch while in brizzy yesterday $845 with rope. 5 year warrenty on solenoid and lifetime warrenty on other parts.... Nice 8-)
Looks like a quality unit, the control box feels like it take a bit of a beating.

Will be installing on saturday. Have to take brushbars and bullbar off to install and looking at the measurents of winch compared to space inside bar its gonna one hell of a tight fit! like as little as 1mm may need to shaved due to the length of the motor.... fingers crossed

will throw some pics up once done
I know a lot about cars, man. I can look at any car's headlights and tell you exactly which way it's coming.

Right, I am going to ask, and hopefully I can get some feedback...I have 3 weeks to make my mind up :x

I wasnt originally looking at a winch, well, not straight away. However, I may be looking at one now, and I have basically narrowed down the possibilities to:

The Avenger Mako TDS Rope Winch (9500 or 12000lbs...not sure yet) or;

the Tigerz11 12000lb Grande Rope Winch.

The Tigerz11 is really hard to go past at the moment, especially at the price I have seen them somewhere ;) But the only comparo type thing I have seen was in that 4WD Action one, and I think that was the 10000lb Fast Recovery. Other than that I havent really seen much else about them.

Thoughts anyone?

Tigerz made a good winch, but I have no first hand knowledge of their new range.

We sell some of their gear, but they had huge supply issues every time i tried to get hold of anything winch related last year. Now they have a whole new range, so I'll assume that they have changed supplier, therefore all bets are off as to what the new range will be like.

I saw somewhere that they are about to use, or have just started using, a new marketing name.

You really don't need a 12000lb winch in a triton, just carry some extra snatch blocks and extension straps, these will allow you a greater flexibility, in addition to being able to handle a greater load, with less load on your winch and battery etc.

The thing with Mako is that noone ever seems to buy one, people win them, they 'win' adve...mperos but I still haven't seen one in real life, on a 4wd, getting dirty.

or you can use a 1200lb and it would be even less strain. ;)
After seeing a 9000lb Warn winch in action recently.......I'm glad I got the 1200lb tigerz. ;)
Chop chop has left a couple of "ifs buts and maybes" with the Tigerz until these are confirmed you could only go on the reputation that they have gained for being a good winch for a good price. I'm sure Tigerz would like to keep that reputation. ;)

Sure, I'd certainly like to think that that is the case, they were good guys to deal with and probably brought about a bit of an innovation in winches in Australia.

I have, and bought my mako winch. When side by side with a premier they look very very similar. The place that installed mine is a premier/warn dealer and they were impressed with it. We stripped it down to have a good look at it and we could see why they were so popular in the uk where they live in the mud and rain.

Avenger are also one of those companies which don't buy comparo wins unlike Tjm and arb who have hissy fits if they dont take it out.

Sorry mate..... I'm not to familiar with the warn winch range.
All it know is it had a "w" on it and it was 9000lb and it was struggling.

12,000 lb or 9,000 lb through a snatch block like we did with mine is a lot of strain to put on your tri
Not to mention on all of your recovery gear
I now have a bent bullbar & 1/4 pannel that don't line up with no visible sign of impact
And Mattz I could see the Strain on everything when the 9,000lb stalled it wasn't a good feeling expecting something to fail

So what youre saying Moons, is that the 12000lb didnt put as much strain on the truck as the 9000lb through all the blocks and stuff? :?

No mate
What I'm saying is I was stuck
With the 9,000 stalled I was going nowhere
When it was doubled up through a block it got me out but I could just sense there was a fair bit of stress being excerted
Winch had the potential to provide 16,000 but who knows what the figure was as I started to pop out of the hole it could have been a lot less
I now want to revisit all of my recovery gear as it may need to be beefed up

Sounds like it might be a worn warm warn warn mooons?

From what I gather one of the Aldi winches got a workout over the weekend and held its own, which is good to see.

I have a Mako on my Tri, only I have never been stuck enough to need to use it

not sure if thats a good or bad thing :?

Two things to note is that it sits very close to the IC  & the fairlead that comes with the cable version does not fit the ARB bar (at least it didnt 3 years ago. dont know about the synth cables or other brand bars)

I have never been stuck enough snooozy either, except kitty has been on the end of it, oh, also it got used on the 4wdAction Dual Cab Shootout pulling all of the other dual cabs out of trouble. That was before it won the comparo and the first time those boys had seen one in action.

I made a visit to TJM the other day and the service guy said that I couldn't fit a 12,000 lb winch in my ARB Deluxe Bar???

Apparently the bar is only rated to 10,000lb

Has anyone else been told this or is the sales man just trying to sell me something they had in stock...
