show me your rack

Postby tassie_ml on Tue Mar 23, 2010 1:09 pm

there are a few threads about roof racks, but they are spread out.

Can we post up info in this one thread about roof racks, cross bars, roof top tents and anything that goes up there and we can keep all the info in one place.

It will be a good reference for brands, tracks v soft feet, load ratings, steel Vs alloy, overall sizes, roof or canopy mounted etc etc...there are so many variations and this info will hopefully help those of us about to plunge into roof rack ownership.

Pics are mandatory

Initially I though this thread was about topless girls which I thought was against board policy and discriminatory towards our female members, I am so glad that the thread is what it is. :D

Similar idea to Jops but with sliding rola rack setup:

and slick discreet mounting of bolts under lid so that they do not take effect anything being stored in tub:

On the roof is a set of Pro Rack S wings which some day will be changed to tracks.
Also thanks to Jop's alertness I actually have two lids, one also without the racks :D

A Roof Rack place in Brisbane will do a system like daryn's for $900  (as I was told by a hilux owner on the weekend, with two bike racks) priced parts for DIY at Autobahn $250. All things Toyota are expensive

Ummmmm, no I dont think I do have a close up.
There are some angle brackets that bolt to the aluminium plate that runs the length of the awning.
These angles then bolt down to the bars with ring bolts. This allows you to use the bolts as tie down points as well.
If I get a chance tomorrow I will throw my awning on and take a few happy snaps for ya.

Hi Dylan

I like the look of your rack over the canopy.

I have the Mitsubishi canopy and Rhino rack bars over the cab however as a keen kayaker I would like to be able to put my kayak on the roof without struggling to lift it on my own, if I had a rack like yours I could fit a roller on the back end to enable me to easily put the kayak up on the roof without assistance.

I will have to check to see if I can fit something like this to my canopy without too much buggerising around.

I assume the rack came with the canopy when you had it fitted.

Hey mate i've since sold the triton  The rack was an extra when bought the canopy , inside the canopy was some load bearing supports that the rack bolted to through the canopy . It was all ARB stuff , i think they actually make them with rollers on the back aswell ;)

Yeah, medium from Autobarn for $249.

To fit the awning I brought some aluminium flat bar from bunnings the width of the bar channel by 3mm thick, drilled 4 holes and countersunk them to fit 4 countersunk bolts.

I also have the same ARB rack but I have a roller mount fitted for the loading of a kayak.

When not in use you take the roller out and the mounts don't interfere with the rest of the racks.

It works well.
Spent most of my money on booze, women, guns, utes, motorcycles, fishing & boats.

I wasted the rest!

Hello Oink
Can you show me a photo of your rack with the roller fitted, I have a Mitsubishi canpoy , I dont know if they supply a rack to go on the canopy, I would like to see yours so I can make some modifications myself if necessary, Im a keen kayaker too but its a bit hard lifting 25kg of kayak up on the roof on your own.
Thanks brownegaz
