The Tray Thread

Well seeing as i am getting a tray and there seems to be a growing interest in them, i thought we should have a tray thread.......... so post up pics of your tray!!!

I thought this would be a good idea seeing as there are many ways to go about design on a tray for a triton.

ill get the ball rolling, Theses are pics i collected from the net while i was researching mine.

Good idea for a thread Tim. Tritons and trays, they either look fantastic or they look terrible.

I really like that last one, a lot of thought has gone into matching it to the Tri. That combined with it not being too long helps as well.

The Tray Thread

I haven't added any forum members as thought they could do their own and put their input in.

The black tray (2nd last car) was custom made by the owner including the neat little side boxed and everything. I actually rang this guy when he was selling the car and tried to buy just the tray.

The gunmetal one at the bottom was also custom made by the owner and is quiet custom and looks great. Its about 1300 long so short but it suits. He said he just started building it and added things to it till it looked good. I'm pretty sure he was willing to build more if someone wanted him too.

Spotted this today

Look pretty good for a clubcab. But the sides were to small, maybe 200mm? Would have looked heaps better 300mm sides and a tube headboard. And some 33s on black steelies ;)

I am trying to figure out what setup would best suit my needs.

Keep the tub and get a canopy or replace the tub with a tray?

I need to fit in (and secure) a large dog, dual batteries, 40lt and 80lt fridge, tools, compressor, etc.

Has anyone had experience with tray setups that you can lift off? I like the idea of a setup I can store at home during the week to save on fuel and on the weekends, lower it on, bolt it up and head out

If I keep the tub is there a way to get rear protection without replacing the factory tow kit?

Yea I'm in the same boat at the moment, Im hopping to buy or build a slide on camper and change every thing I have done to the ute so far.
What I'm not sure is do I buy alloy or steel tray.

I dont have pics, sorry, but a truck I seen over weekend was of the canvas and tray type with high security, there were 5 alloy mesh doors built on hinges where the canvas lifts up. So he just unzipped, lifted the hinged door upwards with canvas resting on it, huge sun shade as well and struts holding the doors up. Best of both worlds.

I hope what I said you can picture. :D

Damn this forum, now i gotta get a custom made tray!

I just ordered a club cab with the boring standard alloy tray and now have seen these awesome trays and can't stop thinking about it. Hmmm i might call the dealer tomorrow and get my $1600 bucks back.

I'm thinking like you 'ratstriton' I have decided on a slide on camper and a custom slide on toolbox for work... do i go steel or alloy? Is a heavy duty alloy tray strong enough for lugging a camper around the outback? I would prefer to go alloy because its a lot lighter i think? Hmmm so many possibilities now.

Be careful with the slide on so you don't get a lot of hang over behind the wheels....

Yeah thats why i went the club cab, i hate the look of all that overhang on the dual cabs with too long a tray just looks wrong. And after reading that thread of guy's breaking chassis i thought i don't wanna go there! Common sense really... :oviewtopic.php?f=18&t=6435&hilit=chassis+break
