Vehicle Insurance : Who, What & How Much

Postby martyboy on Fri Feb 22, 2008 12:08 am

Hey wondering what insurance companies ppl are using.
There are a few new ones on the market these days.
personally I had quotes from 2K through to $800.
I ended up with a new one called "bingle.com.au" You can only do it online etc but I hve it insured from way more than I paid (this will cover any lease costs if I write it off) and I paid $640.
However there is no hire car or any extra's included.

This has brought me to thinking what others a re doing and what they may be getting that is worth looking into....

I have been looking and Australian 4WD insurance they cover you any where in Australia on any 4WD track anywhere ( unlike most insurance companies they will only insure gazzetted roads) and they will cover all accessories & modifications (as long as the modifications are legal) full comprehensive for 50/50 business/private $1400 with two listed drivers normal excess $400 and unlisted drivers $800.
this is a bit high because of my age only 27
same quote using my fathers age 55 $998

Check them out

You younger guys should look at bingle.com.au

I got mine for $640 odd. It covers you everywhere including 4x4 accept if you are in a 4x4 competition.
Only think it doesnt give you is a hire car if you stack it.

No idea who I'm insured with, leasing company knows all that, my premium is around $700 per annum, and anyone can drive and be covered under the normal excess..

Will find the policy and let you guys know who I'm with..

Cheers, Shane.

Just make sure your insurance company knows about any / all modifications / extras that your vehicle has............;) ;)
Tip # 1 - Avoid stress & grief & low resale values with vehicles - do it once - do it right, buy a HILUX!!

From bingle.com.au
If your car has been modified in any way,
Bingle cannot insure you.
They were $200 or so cheaper so I'm not heartbroken.

Yeb double cab is that way to go.....as for being insured for 4x4 I dont think that would cover private property driving, beach's etc .
It will cover anything that is identified as a public road!

yep mine worked out to be ~$650, so not a great deal of difference, but if they cover for offroad it might be worth looking into. interested to know what they'd define as accessories and modifications though, as it could get messy if you had to claim.

They had a list and if you had done anything that wasn't on the list it was a mod. By that I believe my lift kit to be a mod.

Mine is ~$640 with AAMI. Haven't done mods yet.....covered provided I'm not racing or in some sort of competition.

NRMA - NSW - $560 including $10K worth of accessories.
It is cheaper to insure my Triton than my 4 year old Mazda Bravo.

Just got mine through budget Direct
$1200 with glass option (no excess on glass option)
No drivers under 25
50/50 business/Private
can be used for offroad but not competition
Live in NSW
with all options listed
canopy, ute liner, towbar, nudge bar
if it was not 50/50 business/private it would be hell of a alot cheaper.
But because i got the ABN discount on the triton i had to have Bussiness Rego so i had to insure for business.
