 sooo true!!

NRMA and AAMI have been reco by the BIL (who repairs my cars) they pricey but yeah come claim time less fuss..

All assessors are twats and you just give em a hard time back and know that on my policy.. I CAN CHOOSE repairer and if he says the front bar is gone its gone... All assessors jobs are to save the insurer cash wherever possible and recommend repairers they know are cheap (or give them kickbacks). If they can get you to accept a lesser repair because they think your not fussy they will.

//3k rego bill for me: insurance $1400 + green slip $900 + bizo rego $500 =$2800 (remember premiums depend on where the car rego'ed, options like agreed value and accessories and windscreen cover, lower excess etc etc... kent st, sydney = fender bender paradise  (just ask my mrs  )

Car Insurance

Postby josh_cod on Fri Apr 29, 2011 8:01 pm

G'day All,

Just wanted to share my experiences with my insurance company and a warning that you may be paying more than you need to be.
When I got my Triton about a month ago, I got my insurance changed over from my previous car. I ended up paying $80 extra, which at the time I thought was fine as it was a brand new car. However I just did an online quote and was blown away. It was over $600 cheaper, I couldn't believe it. I even started over and ensured that I had the details exactly the same from my previous policy to the online quote. Yep exactly the same. So I gave my insurance company a call and the bloke on the other end couldn't believe the difference either. He double checked it and then got onto his manager who checked it as well.
So after alot of sweet talking and quite abit of firm talking, managed to get the manager to give me a nice little refund as well as a new policy which covers me for another year from today. (not bad as I only had 5 months left on my previous policy)

So if you were like me and just accepted the price of your policy, it might be worth your while to check out the online price first before renewing.

(Mods if this is not triton enough related please move to a more appropriate location)
Cheers,
Josh

dont forget to make sure you use an agreed value and not a market value. much more expensive but will save a shitload of hassles in the event of a write off claim.

and chicky......try insuring in Toongabbie Sydney.

locations make a huge difference in premiums.

I was just refused a quote because I stipulated that I had a minor bit of damage on the rear 1/4 panel the size of a tennis ball. Maybe I should have not been honest about it... what the heck ?

I am with AAMI, my old premium for my 80 series was about $1350. I then had to pay an additional $80 when I moved it across to the Triton. And then another $17 when I added my Canopy. Doing it online took it to down to $850. Which I think is pretty good for an under 25 driver. I have been with AAMI since my first car 5 years ago, which was when I first started driving. They were the cheapest for me then, so I didn't compare each year after that. However they were not reducing the premium each year, and as a young driver each of those years of accident free mileage counts for alot.
Cheers,
Josh

Ouch Quinny! :o

I just got mine today, $480 from RACQ, including cover for spotties, suspension, rhino liner, bash plate and tub hard lid 8-) For some reason the factory turbo is also listed in the modifications  New for old automatically for first two years and I do get a multi-policy discount which I think is about 10% :D

I even got in writing that off road driving won't void my insurance, as long as it's on public areas...couldn't get clarity about LCMP which I assume is like having a road car on a race track, "yes maam I was out on the road side of the gates when I hit that wall"

It's a black art insurance, my wife's Tarago is more than double to insure, and it will never leave the road :? hopefully

Its times like insurance that i hate being a young driver. I paid just over $1600 when i first insured my car in Canberra last year. Then when i changed my address after moving (to Sale)... they refunded me $230. I thought it was the greatest thing ever! ...until i just read what some of you guys are paying.

A word of warning guy’s, always check to make sure your policy covers off-road use (some policies don’t or they slug you with big deductibles can be as much as 10% of the loss value)

You insure for agreed value and you list all your mods on the policy (as some covers can be decline or reduce your claim due to accessories not being listed).

When buying online make sure you find out how the claim process works and if you have to take your vehicle to a central processing centre or can you use your local preferred repairer (some insurers want more premium for this)

Last but not least, do your research, don’t trust or assume that all covers are the same or all insurers are the same they all differ in some way. Simple example is did you spend 5 minutes researching the purchase of your suspension and then purchase online? No way, so the cover on your 30k to 60k vehicle which is encumbered and you are responsible for the loan is worth a lot more than a $300 to $500 saving if it means you are covered to the full value and have no issues at a time of a claim.

I shall get off the soap box now :ugeek:

Just went through my renewal, not one of the mods I rang and told them about had been listed on the policy

So I just changed everything ;)

IT WAS:
market value with no mods other than diff lock, metallic paint, tow bar and rhino liner (yep, all the factory ones :| ) TOTAL: $533

NOW IT IS:
40K agreed value, bash plates, bullbar, winch, rims, 2x sets tyres 8-) , side steps, snorkel, uhf, spotties, bonnet protector, ECUteck tune 8-) plus all the standard mods and those listed above, and yes, as long as it's legal for me to be there I'm covered. TOTAL: $681
I'm not so good with the advice  ... Can I interest you in a sarcastic comment???
