Checked with GIO and so long as it is not competion or racing they are happy to cover just give all mods, normal suspension upgrades are no issues maybe 4" could be

I'm in the 2790 area code, with max. no claim bonus. Been with NRMA for 20 years with only 1 claim 10 years ago when a ute of mine got broken into. The insurance cost for my stock ute was almost the same as Buzzy's price above, when I added 10k worth of accessories the extra cost was 40 odd bucks.

NRMA cover me for $780. Not bad considering I'm not 30 yet. That's with 65% no claim bonus and one speeding ticket in the last 3 years.

Can I assume that since noone gets their tyres (those with >32") engineered and therefore they're not road legal that everyone's insurance company doesnt' know about them? I told mine about them and they said as long as they're legal they're fine and I just went "ooooooooookkkkkkkkkk"

The tyre issue is just plain stupid - ML Tritons come out on smaller (width & height) tyres than what the previous model did, yet new model makes 30% more power......................

(Yes, my insurance company knows I've gone up in size - my broker has a std list that he just forwards to them, as a list of mods these days.......)

I had a quick look for comprehensive insurance for my new GLS. Most 'on-line' quotes ranged from $800 to 1,200 which I found a little excessive (poor pun), until I tried aami, they came in at $500.

Wasn't a hard decision after that.

Remember though, that the 'value' of your premiums, never really gets tested till ya go to make a claim..........;) ;)

I'm the same as Yogi. AAMI can't recall the exact price policy is in the glove box, but around $660-$700 ended up being $15 cheaper than my 1995 bluebird that they would have given me $2000 bucks for if i wrote it off.

Also got in on a special they gave me 2 years full replacement rather than 1. And stated as long as not in a comp all good. Beach/bush NP so they said. Never know till you make a claim sometimes.

I hate to scare you guys but I've heard nothing but bad stories from AAMI and a lot of them have come from my uncle who has had a panel beaters shop for 20 odd years.

I've never had any issues with them - only three claims in over ten years. One was clipping a garage pole with the Mazda Astina SP (my fault - replaced bumper), rear ender - lady in front stopped half way across a road (my fault) and rear ender (not my fault). All fixed no probs. With the first one they let me make the claim, save up the cost and withdraw the claim - paying the difference and reclaiming the no-claim bonus! 8-)

Never had any issues with them running dutch auctions for your repairs forcing the shops to use 2nd hand parts and do dodgy work?

Maybe I've just heard a lot of bad stories but it was from both customers and my uncle so I steered clear.

Tolinja are you dealing with them directly?

I have used TCIS as a broker and they're using LSV. Just waiting on a quote back now which should be around $900 in wollongong nsw. You banana benders seem to be cheaper :x

Rick Alianz wouldn't quote me insurance as they don't cover modifications, tyres, wheels & suspension.

My sister used to work for AAMI - the stuff she told me scared the crap out of me and I wont touch them EVER...

Alianz here, through lease, $720 including LR tank, barwork, anywhere in Oz so long as it's not a comp.

Been with GIO for the past 33 years and my insurance with max no claim and all the extras I have fitted to my TRI is $600 per annum. Try brokerages if you are younger and you might be surprised. Lumleys are especially good as they use certified panel shops to do their work. I can relate stories of other WELL KNOWN insurance companies who skimp on repairs and screw the panel shops for all they are worth. Realistically if by chance you do bend your pride and joy I would rather pay a little extra for the peice of mind in having the vehicle repaired to as new standard than not, my thoughts only......................8-)
