LSV quoted me $850 for agreed value and all mods included. They win.

Digging this one up from the grave as it is renewal time for me. I rang LSV and they aren't really interested in daily driven cars anymore so their renewal quote was $1055 up from $670!!! He explained they were only after comp trucks now so they weren't taking new business. I've left a message with TCIS and DGA and other than that so far I'm going with QBE with agreed value at $45k and $875 for a standard premium or $760 with no drivers <24 y.o.

I recall hearing good things about QBE, have any of you dealt with them and if so can you give some feedback?

I just ran through their PDS and as with all insurers their market value is based on the vehicle at the time of the accident IOW the price listed at the time of the policy means SFA. Interestingly the price listed was $45340 yet redbook lists the current market value as follows:
Private Price Guide $29,600 - $32,400
* Trade In Price Guide $24,600 - $27,400
* Average Km 30,000 - 50,000
* Price When New (RRP) $44,990

What's strange is that the online quote system for QBE wont accept an agreed value below $45340! I entered that amount as agreed value and the premium goes up ~$80 across their policies so its $966 for standard or $844 for no drivers <24 y.o.

Worth the extra $80 for $10k worth of extra cover in case a claim comes up I reckon.

Maybe I've just heard a lot of bad stories but it was from both customers and my uncle so I steered clear.

My sister used to work for AAMI and was one of the hard arses negotiating the use of second hand parts - in the end the stress got to her and she quit... The stories she used to tell about how they tried to screw people over and the fact that whilst working for them SHE refused to use their cover is enough for me to never put them into consideration...

Edit: what do you know, I already took a swipe at AAMI in this thread...

2 of my mates were insured with AAMI and ended up in Court in respect to claims. One got up and one didn't having to pay out his stolen pride n joy that he never saw again.

I was insured (vehicle) with AAMI, had an at faul collision and they were great....my house is insured with them however :geek:

My Triton is with QBE, they are fantasic, cheap and have only heard good things about them..... Especially their option of drivers ages etc....

$510 :D my other works for suncorp so staff discount applies, BUT i did get a quote from budget and it was only $560. not much more than suncorp but didnt have hire car or windscreen added on like the suncorp policy.
insured for market value as got the abn deal which is alot less than the noted market value plus its replacement within 2 years, so am not concerned about agreed value (which can be a con, read the fine print with your insurer on this. an assessor can still deem a car not worth that much at write off and therefor you not get what you think your going too get) :x

I just rang QBE because they have this in their PDS:

If your vehicle is stolen or accidentally damaged during the
period of insurance, we will:
n pay the cost of repairs up to an amount not exceeding the
sum insured;
n if your vehicle is a total loss;
c pay the sum insured taking into account your
vehicle’s condition at the time of the incident;
or
c replace your vehicle provided:
- you are the original owner and have insured your
vehicle with us from new; and
- your vehicle is less than two years old and has
been driven less than 20,000kms; and
- your vehicle was originally insured for the purchase
price,
if a similar make and model is available."

And she has assured me that that is only the case for market value so I've asked her to give me that in writing and she's happy to do that. She also ran through the quote on her system and couldn't get it to offer agreed or market value over $35k-ish but agreed that if I had a quote for that price and value it would be honoured.

TCIS quoted me $940/year for $41k agreed value with accessories which was pretty reasonable I thought.

Sounds OK except I've done nearly 20,000k's in 8 months and I don't know many that wouldn't do close to 20 in a year?

They are not the only ones doing this sort of thing. AAMI is now owned by GIO.... go figure.... Another well known insurer used do this sort of thing twenty five years ago...... still happens! We pay premiums and the companies benefit from using 2nd hand parts amd also screw the repairers down for their costs, makes you wonder????? :x :x

insurance renewal - what a hoot

Postby greybeard on Mon May 11, 2009 5:21 pm

just received my insurance renewal in the mail. surprise, surprise it's gone up ;)
i started to get some online quotes with different conditions etc and then i thought 'what the heck, i'll get an online quote from my existing insurer'.

i filled out exactly the same conditions, word for word, as written on my renewal notice, even down to the actual street address.

written renewal offer in the mail -> $657
online for same policy with same company -> $527

must be the 'stupid old fart' rating i have :mrgreen:

with a small amount of tweaking i've got an online quote down to $440 so far..

I am a QBE man Steve. They were the cheapest by far for me. I live on the NSW Central Coast.

Greybeard, we had the same thing with NRMA for the Mrs car. It was 200 cheaper for the same product. I guess they just rely on people renewing it without asking...

G'day Rod,

Try DGA insurance mate, they have been looking after me very well for a while now, top quotes too.

http://www.dgainsurance.com.au/4wd.htm

They are one of the only insurance companies I have found to actually insure me with the amount of accessories that I have... they mainly specialise in tourers as well from memory.

I bumped a thread on this last week

viewtopic.php?f=18&t=529

Lumley were a great 4wd insurer but they aren't insuring daily driven cars anymore or they're charging prohibitive amounts (by their own admission) if they do.

I switched to QBE and the online system quoted me a much better deal than the girl on the phone could do and she told me the quote I was getting was valid so I purchased.

Its common for insurers to reward new customers with cheaper deals these days. Same goes for phones apparently.

I have my ute insured with HBF at a cost of about 1500 a year. i recently changed from Sgio as it was 1800 a year.

i have been looking into AAMI and a quote from them is 750 a year.

all the quotes are for fully comprehensive, i figure i can shop around now my ute is over 2 years old so there is no 2year/new for old replacement to be had.

the only difference is with hbf its insured for 40K i think and if i go with AAMI it will only be 31K

i have limited options as im still under 25, do you reckon i should go with the less premium and less payout if i crash? or stay with the better one and pay more a year??
