Petrol Engine in MN Triton??

Postby Big Brad on Fri Aug 07, 2009 10:17 pm

Anyone got any ideas on the petrol donk in the new models??

Be good to get a larger 3.8 shoved under the bonnet

Hopefully with the 5 speed auto as well

I was told today that Mitsu is dropping the V6 petrol engine in the MN triton as they want to concentrate on the diesel engines more.

I know for fact there is a 3.8 Triton running around here in South-Africa  Its being tested for local conditions . But if we will see it as a production model I not 100% sure

Hey jgoosen, what mitsu say and do are 2 different things. The problem with most manufacturers is they just get things right then they change them.

I think Diesel sales Vs Petrol sales for the ML were very lop-sided and only likely to get more so with the new model so not at all surprised to see the petrol delayed or even cancelled.

No mention at all of V6 in anything I've seen. Maybe I made a good choice for resale for those who don't want a dirty, smelly, smoky, noisy, high maintenance diesel. Ya gotta love an engine that revs to 6000rpm, can go up hills at the same speed as it does down, uses fuel that's up to 30cpl cheaper, has twice the service intervals, doesn't wake the whole neighbourhood when started on a cold morning and still returns respectable consumption figures.

I think the 3.8 V6 with 5 speed auto was in the MM Triton. Very short model run - little more than a flash in my imagination.

Hey 5th i think Mitsu made a good choice by not putting a V6 in the MN as the new common rail DID's are a good engine :D , i wont go back to a petrol engine, fuel price isn't that much difference between them.

Mad, I said before in another thread that the Triton wouldn't be off my list next time around. Just need a couple years to really get my head around not having a petrol engine.

Geez you know how to get a guy depressed in a hurry.

The Triton V6 is designed for Lpg unlike the other manufacturers.

Cheaper than anything else to run around in.

When you are doing big klm it makes a big difference.

Might need to chase up the last of the ML range then.
