I thought I would share my car computer project with you's...

1. Moved the original computer to where the ashtray and ciggi lighter live

2. Took out surround and mounted screen bracket... had to do a little trimming to fit the screen

Thats the GPS out the back

3. Removed front passenger seat and mounted the computer and the power regulator... wired it all up

4. Tidied the wiring a bit...

5. Replaced seat

6. Voila!

Check out my profile for hardware specs...

That's nice work there Smeg. I'm going down the same route myself so very happy that someone has trodden it before me. A lot more confident now. Just be careful on those water crossings. Wouldn't want to fry it up.
I'd rather have a full bottle in front of me than a full frontal labotomy!

Thats great?
What front end software program are you using?
Was the triton screen available for download or did you make it yourself. (I've looked but not found something made)

I really like the new location of the trip computer. You didn't try and link the data (fuel etc) into the carputer?

The front end software is Centrafuse by Flux Media...
I did the triton logo myself (happy to share it)

I would have absolutely no idea how to plug the car telemetry data into the computer... I wouldn't even know where to begin... would be great to do tho...

It is indeed... you can output nav, video/dvd, reverse camera, etc to other displays... as long as the OS is aware of multiple displays centrafuse can output to it...

There is no reason why you can't output all different functions to different displays... eg. main control where mine is... reverse camera to a rearview mounted screen... video to headrest screens... as long as the computer has enough outputs...

Not sure how to get this to work myself, or if it would work on the diesel triton (but the scanguage works on the triton so that sort of means it would work???)

see link for discussion on evoscan.

Nice piece of work! Would be interested to see some screenshots from Ozi on that 7" screen. I stuck with 8" because I thought the resolution of a 7" might not be good enough (I wear glasses).

Isn't power consumption very high on that PC? I looked at something like this a while back and all the car pc guys said that running a desktop might appear to be a cheap alternative but the hardware is overkill and too thirsty on the power.

Awesome job though if you don't have any power issues I'll definitely be following in your path I love the factory look!

A cheap alternative to what austblue?

The system draws about 45w...

Sheepo- I use it play all my media, navigation, reverse camera... I have wireless broadband... I have also written an application that allows my windows mobile phone to communicate with the PC... and after 4wd26's suggestion, I am going to look at OBD2 integration to get system readouts

The great thing about the sx270 is that it is basically made up of laptop components. It's a laptop hdd so it can handle reasonable bumps. I have done some moderate off-roading since installing with no dramas yet.

Wow... thats crap... well, its a second hand computer, at least 5 years old and cost me 100 bucks... if the hdd fails I wont be too disappointed... these machines can boot from USB so worst comes to worst I can move the OS to a USB flash drive and then bumps wont be an issue...

Smeg, would you mind sharing that mobile application?
As for OBD, I bought the device from http://www.obdpros.com. Easy install, software runs fine. No clue what the codes mean, but having another gadget is part of the fun.

As for the reliability of hard disks: have a laptop one in my car PC and did serious offroading for 3 years now without any problem.
