Compass not working

Compass not working

Postby eassy_e on Mon Dec 09, 2013 11:56 am

Hi all,

I purchased a MN Triton GLX-R new in October 2010.
Haven't had any problems with it until a couple of days ago I noticed the compass isn't working. Everything else on the display is working fine except for the blank compass.
Any ideas to what's going on ?

Cheers.

Try to recalibrate the compass via the adjustment menus. Instructions as to how you do this are in the user manual. If that fails, then your compass unit is shot.
This is the best bad idea I have

I have found, on occasion, that phones etc can interfere when calibration is done.

Dash mat or other stuff on top of the dash could be blocking it's signal.....

I moved my rv meter to where the original stereo was and now the compass won't calibrate as it gets no signal.

I have spent a good amount of time driving in circles too

Hey Guys,

Did any of you have any further success with restoring your compasses?
Now mine is just displaying nothing however everything else on the RV meter appears to be working!

Have you tried dropping power to the Rv unit? May have just got a glitch.

If its going to work it usually calibrates with about 3/4 to 1&half circles.

From memory, the magnetic sensor is a little module that sits on top of the RV meter unit - maybe a loose connector?

Yes it's a small flux gate compass it must be level.. to work .for the guys that moved it it has to be in the same orientation and angle as original...

That's interesting, Shippy. I moved mine and changed the angle as well and it always worked just fine.

I dropped the power last night for a good hour and to my surprise this restored the compass, however when I left for work this morning, before I could even get the nose out of the garage the compass had once again disappeared!

Well your just special lol..when I moved mine the compass unit was on a steep angle as I directed mine on an angle to see it better it wouldn't work until I put it on s more level plane ....

The compass in my MN GLXR has said I'm driving towards the North East from brand new. Very occasionally it will swing to almost show straight East, then back NE again.

Even when driving straight into the sunset it's apparently, still NE, amazing....

Is it trying to tell you something 79? Go east and find gold!

More seriously, you haven't got some accessory with lots of iron or external CB speaker nearby?

Or probably crook Hall sensor array. Warranty job?

Haha, you're probably right on the money, I'm sure it's telling me something. ;)

I honestly thought they where just a gimmick and guessed there was some weird calibration ritual that you have to do every time you want it pretend it knew where it was.
It's honestly never bothered me, and not worth the effort to sort it out.

I doubt I'll be needing that compass to guide me out of the wilderness any time soon. :)

I just bought a used MN and the compass is constantly sitting on 'N' and doesn't budge. Went through the calibration process yesterday and drove in circles for a good couple of minutes, but couldn't get it to complete calibration!

How long do you have to drive in circles for? Clockwise/anti-clockwise/doesn't matter? A few spectators were gathering by the time I gave up
