LED parker light globes for MN

LED parker light globes for MN

Postby AussieAnth on Thu Nov 05, 2015 9:06 pm

Anyone swapped their parker globes for LED globes?

Can anyone confirm what type the parker globes are?

Could be kind of like a cheap & easy Daytime Running Light upgrade. The factory parkers are next to useless, and I figure a nice LED globe would go a long way to improving general visibility during the day.

I've seen a couple of ebay ads referring to a T10 led globe for the ML, but its not really clear.

Hi we did ours just bought them on ebay and five mintes to change. We use them like day lights. The manual has the light type.

Also tried to put led in rest of lights but reverse was only one that worked successfully without a lot of upgrade cost.

The amount of money that I wasted on LED parkers on the Triton was absurd. They sit right above the headlight bulb and the heat kills them in a ridiculously short time. I tried free ones, cheap ones and expensive ones - they all did the same. In the end I used blue tint incandescents - not so nice but at least they lasted.

As for using them as DRLs, they don't have the power or the intensity to be sufficiently visible in daylight. I'd recommend a set of purpose made units.

I've also gone through a few sets of led parkers.

Forget about the units with multiple led globes or stacked circuit boards with surface mount chips. The number of bits and poor quality soldering will guarantee failure.

The ones I have at present are just a couple of surface mounted LEDs on a holder and seem to be hanging in there.

I saw what I really wanted at SC recently, but they were gone by the time I made up my mind. These units were essentially a piece of circuit board with the contacts etched on the board and large surface mounted LEDs for the emitters. This provides the most robust setup.

Good point there 5th, never thought about the headlight heat.

Thanks for the feedback guys.

I think I'm going to pick up a DRL kit. Tossing up between Narva & Hella.

My mate just installed the Narva kit on his LC200. Need to tap into a power source and also the parker circuit as the trigger.

Hella also have a kit for about the same price but promises to be plug n play, and the wiring harness has a control unit. Need to look into how it works a bit more.

I tend to drive with my low beams on a lot, and I think thats why my last set of Phillips Xtreme 120 H4 globes only lasted about 5 months.

I started another thread looking for an unused factory plug and someone mentioned the 2 behind the grill are used for the Challengers HID projector wiper/washer, so hopefully they'll work as accessory power.

I'd go with Hella. Narva quality varies a bit from quite good to very ordinary. They buy in and rebrand a lot of their products.

On the unused wiring issue, my relay/fuse box under the bonnet has a spot for a relay to run wipers for the headlights. I've been meaning to scope out whether the rest of the wiring is there but I suspect it might be. If you end up going that way you'll probably need to add a relay in there to make it live, but I'd suspect it might only be live when the wipers are activated.

I might be wrong, but I think it is illegal to drive with just the parkers on... It means that you're parked and can be deceiving. I know that in Europe you'd get a hefty fine for that. They are not day time lights. The same as driving with the fog lights on when there is no fog.

Interestingly I threw led parkers into my MN and when I put foot on brake the dash lights would flicker on. Led's out and it stopped. This was without headlights on.

Gave up, the yellow glow plus white looks garbage anyway. LED headlight tech isn't far off, at moment they are pretty much one standard output, high beam isn't any brighter I am told.

I'm currently in Bali and the challenger HID headlights look the ducks nuts

It'll be great when they make a complete LED assembly to replace the whole headlight fitting. Then you'd be able to have optimised beams, DRLs, off-road spread and fog all in one unit.

Just bumping an old thread to see if there's any better alternatives as can't find a lot on here about the T10 parker options.

I'm upgrading the H4 headlight globes with some Philips X-treme Vision +130% from Powerbulbs. So wanted to change out the parkers for something better that matches the nice white light from the Philips.

Are the cheap ebay LED's still the only real option?

I went through a few led replacements from Super Cheap and the heat from the H4s just frazzled them.

Probably mozz myself now but the current units have hung in.

Thanks for that . Will check them out :)

I ended up finding some T10 LED's in my spares from previous cars, so gave them a try. Probably not ideal for a parker given the amount of individual LED's, but looks OK for now until they pack it in ;)

Bump for old thread. Thought I might get onto these led Parkers as the pics show a significant improvement. Thought I might go with the Philips 6000k (white) for supposed longevity. One question for anyone that has tried this, do you get any error codes at all? MN 2014

 No question about your nationality coughy. Obviously Strine. resy=resistor.

On the subject of the actual LED parkers, many do not like the heat that they get, sitting right above the headlight bulb. I blew a whole series of them and found that cost is no guarantee of quality.

Those LEDs look the goods fought, being encapsulated is the game changer.

The units I've tried are finicky soldered assemblies where I think the issue is a combination of heat and vibration breakdown the solder joints and/or PCB tracks, where used.

Not having much luck with my LED parkers after trying both the ones in my post above, and then replacing them with the little sealed membrane that Coughy showed above too.

They seem OK when you first install them, but soon after they flicker off/on, or simply don't work at all :(

Any thoughts on how to troubleshoot?
