RAPID Chip

RAPID Chip

Postby daryn on Sun Mar 29, 2009 6:14 pm

OK, last week I was told to talk to a company in Newcastle called Diesel Specialists, they have a guy there who specialises in the electronic performance side of things and after speaking with him about the various brands out there who suggested the RAPID Chip as the go, I have searched on the forum here and the seem to be only mentioned very briefly.

Background info:

Distributed in Australia via : http://www.mtqes.com.au/index.php
Local website : http://www.rapidperformance.com.au/index.php ( looks it is still being built)
Manufacturers : DimSport Italy http://web.dimsport.com/dimsport/
Specialist website : http://web.dimsport.com/rapid/rapidindex.php

Now, I am new to diesel, very, very new to these oil burners, so I have no idea at all, still understanding everything, all I know is that I have DID badge on the tailgate and I am suppose to wear a glove when I fill up (trucky style).

I have read everything that I can about the other brands here with eagerness, I run a tunable cdi with 10 maps on my motorbike so I understand some things.

So there seems to be not many people or none here at least using this brand, at Tuff Dog on the weekend I got to meet the guys at MTQ from Qld and talk about them, I still did not understand the techo talk to much but I am sure that there are guys here who do. There claims are similar to others, but they state that RAPID does its thing in a different way to the other well marketed brands.

Price is just under $1400 then add install, they seem to need a bit more effort on this part but they also install a on/off switch in the cabin with the module under the dash and wires going to the engine, so you would expect with the switch and everything hidden Mitsu will not know its there.

There seems to be two types of of RAPID's, Pro and Std and the Triton gets the Pro model.

They were specific in saying how it works differently to the other big brand here which is better for the motor, but I still don't get it. They don't have a user flickable choice of maps but supposedly can never less be infinitely tuned for each vehicle.

I know Jop was at TT and may have talked to them, but his feedback may also depend on how sober he was

So once again another predicament rears its ugly head of choices amongst tyres, suspension, bars, shocks and everything else, at least the choice of triton vs hilux was easy, oooops did i say that, bloody stir up always coming into it.

Can anyone help, does anyone want to ring them and suss them out ? MTQ seem to be a big national Diesel service company so they should know what they are on about.

I've heard good things about the Steinbaur (spelling?) I think it is more comprehensive than some (controlling injectors? etc), but it is more expensive as well I believe.
I hate to advocate drugs, sex, alcohol, violence, or insanity to anyone, but they’ve always worked for me.
