antenna for uhf

Postby Adonis on Thu Jul 16, 2009 11:34 pm

Hi guys, i'm putting a uhf in my car soon and at the moment my work is selling a GME AE4012K2 antenna (4.5 db) for cheap. Just wondering if it is worth me picking it up (they are selling it for around $55ish at my work)? I plan to do mainly hwy driving up north of wa where some of the roads get hilly and curvy at times and my hand held uhf cuts out. Will the 4.5db be suitable or should i got for a 6db one? Any info would be great as i'm not an expert on this topic, i am led to believe a 4.5 is an "all round" type antenna and a 6db is a long range straight like hwy antenna?

Cheers

Good price Adonis however I am an RFI nut and always recommend the RFI CD900. Its usually 79 posted to your door...they out perform all antennas.

It is a 6.5db however works quite well in hilly areas...if you do a little research about them you will find that people believe they do work a lot better....

Does anyone know if this GME antenna (AE4012K2) will fit an icom ic440? I assume all the gme antennas have the same screw in connection? It's a toss up between this unit and the GME tx3440. I just prefer the solid constuction of the icom and the fact it has the built in speaker in the mic.

Cheers,

Pete

Im pretty sure that all antenna coax connections are generic and will fit any unit.

Umm I want an antenna now (for the IC-400 PRO) and until I got the radio, I didn't think there was much difference in antennas.. what do I need? I've looked up this RFI one that Racer has listed.. do I need that type?

i have RFI CD900 from prestige i think about $90.

option of chrome or black and i went black and glad i did as it doesn't stand out as bad in your view when mounted on the bull bar.
This car is like a bad drug habit. It is taking all my money and time, my family are concerned, but new mods just feel sooooooo good.
