Scangauge

UPDATE! My Scan gauge has been dispatched by Ample Outdoors today which was quick - only paid for it Sunday. Happy with the price as they have a discount on them at the moment. Now have to be patient and wait for the package to arrive. :)

Once I get it and test it I will order the Blendmount from the states and see if I can fit it above the mirror like Subi did with his. Can't wait.

EDIT: Now installed 23 Mar 2011. Easy job to install above the steering wheel. Going to order the Blendmount this week and play with Xguage on the weekend.

The FRP is PID 23 the others which are available and of use if any one wants them ( and I psych myself up to do them) are PID 10 - MAF air flow rate, PID 2C- commanded EGR, PID 2D- EGR error, PID 45 - relative throttle position, PID 49 - accelerator pedal position D, PID 4A - Accelerator pedal, PID 4C - commanded throttle actuator. There are others which the scangauge covers and don't need to be implemented eg ECT (engine coolant temperature) :ugeek:

Scangauge Q's

Postby trouble on Mon Jun 06, 2011 3:41 pm

Why does my LHK reading on my scangauge go up heaps when I take my foot off the throttle, it reads around 3.5 LHK at around 1600 RPM doing about 60kph, then take my foot off to coast down a hill it goes up heaps to around sometimes 60LHK???

ps if there is another thread on this feel free to merge.

Scangauge

Mine goes to zero but at idle at the lights sits on 9999LHK. I remember when installing it that you had to choose the diesel type ??? There was a note in the destructions that choosing one would have the effect you see (I think as I can't find the destructions ATM)

LHK is a live feed and updates every 2 seconds - is a bit of a pain when driving through the gears I found, as at is all over the place - So I set mine AVG which is the average fuel usage.

ok I have done this as well and noticed that my AVG is sitting up around 30 then it jumps to something like 60 odd, I did have it down around 11.2 which is what I reckon Im getting but only seen this once.

Am I doing something wrong??? :?

I have never been able to get the fuel usage to work properly :?
I have had the scangauge for over 18mths & check the usage every fill at the pump. I also compare this to the scangauge & it very rarely is right on.
The trick is to get the tank fill to read correct & this can be frustrating as it seems to jump all over the place. I do use the previously mentioned method of entering 1/2 the difference between actual & gauge reading (if that makes sense) but it still bounces up & down.

I rely mainly on odometer. The fuel part of the gauge I only use as a rough guide.
Very handy for the other gauges. volt, inlet air temp, water temp, PSI (boost) and many others & of course invaluable if you get a code or limpy

Scangauge

Postby Crash486 on Tue Jun 07, 2011 4:55 pm

Sorry to hear the diesel setting was not the fix. Mine is very accurate for fuel after about four fills. The $'s bit it impossible to use but the LHK and AVG are spot on for mine. Since these things are programmed maybe a code update is required or the thing is just not working.
As an aside the FAQ indicates that KW will not be accurate until the LHK is accurate so that might be a reason for reports of KW being erroneous.

I don't know much about them mate, but my understanding is they are used more to clear engine codes than anything else. Sure they act as other temp monitoring etc but that is more of a secondary (bonus) feature unless reasonably major performance mods are used.

The petrol cars don't have these issues or throw codes, so never really saw the need.

They run on OBD2 information, so should work on ANY enghine with an OBD2 port, which is everything produced in the last decade or so
Obviously the info you get will be different through it

i must admit i don't use half the stuff these things can do. however on a run to Port mac on Friday i got an engine light just getting onto the freeway.

Had no idea what it meant, but the Scanguage allowed me to clear it, and it did not come back. i was pretty happy as i don't really like driving along with an engine light on the dash.

so i was pretty happy i had it on Friday.

apart from that i use it for digital readout on RPM, Klm/hr, water temp, and/or boost PSI or intake temps.

i guess the best thing is accurate speeds when using various tyre sizes. adjustable in 1 klm/hr increments. :D

i still use the old fashion calculations for mileage via the bowser and ODO.
This car is like a bad drug habit. It is taking all my money and time, my family are concerned, but new mods just feel sooooooo good.
