Yeah sorry, not a USB, a special iPod cable with 30 pin plug. It's pretty good but a bit dated. That 2 way Bluetooth device opens up a few new tablet mounting options too.

Which Ebay cheapie did you buy coughy?

I am keen to install a subwoofer on my 14 MN warrior with the MMCS. Anyone done this or know if it's possible with this unit?

sorry dave just seen this
um it was this one
http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/151533014009 ... EBIDX%3AIT
then when i have this unit out im looking why the areial seem to be dropping out of tune and stereo
gggrrrr
i think there is a power arieal point on the so im lookin in to that
can u conform dave does thgis run a power boosted arieal??
i think it does because if i turn i think it was the lights it seems to get better with the switching of power and i can see the st on radio flicker....

edit just looked at the dia on first page dave can u sent me the file if u still have it as i can blow it up enought to see the pin outs

Interconnects diagram for MMCS:

PPPLLLLSSSS ;)

edit 2
just found the dia and it looks like there is a ant booster in there like i thought any one found this looks to be in the roof??

also your pin out says it is pin 17 on the c166 plug
but the dia i have looks to be c166 pin 14 (pink wire)??

so if this antenna booster is in the roof how hard is it to get the front edge of the roof liner down so i can have a captain cook in there??

When you pull the sunvisors off, you will see a couple of plastic clips on the leading edge of the roof lining. I think they are the push-in to remove type. I think you will also have to take off the A pillar trims. Roof console as well (if fitted).

Though thinking of roof consoles; (if you have a roof console) maybe you can remove it and see the booster from there?

hay dave do you have any info on your bluetooth device??
as i got one but it dont work
as in the mmcs wont turn on the button to select the ipod??
so im assuming that the cable isnt seeing the bluetooth device
im trying to find some one that has a 30 pin old apple shitter of some sort to see if the cable works or not..
once i establish the cable works then i will need to find a blue tooth device that is compatible...
or i might have to bite the bullet and by the $165 option and i see it works very well
but i dont wont to spend any more money on the mmcs shit box

The one I started with was an "insystem" brand which I'm pretty sure is a housebrand from officeworks.

Then I bought a real cheapie off ebay for Tony and that one worked first go as well. I can dig up the link for that one if you like because I've not seen the officeworks one again since (probably because it took me like a year to try it out by which time they'd stopped selling them).

It's sounding like the cable maybe, but as you say you need a 30 pin device to test it.

Yeah I've looked at that device before. The only catch is that if you're using the aux in for that, you won't get the video while in motion, so you're sort of flying blind. I reckon you could use the new chromecast to achieve a pretty similar result with an adapter or two.

Copying this in here from the what did you do to your triton today thread given the subject matter.

Cowboy Dave wrote:Today I installed... Okay I'll stop there. Today I plugged in and connected two devices to make the MMCS more user friendly. I've stopped short of calling it installed because at the moment there are wires hanging everywhere, none of the control boxes are mounted/secured and the MMCS is held in by two screws and a rolled up rag.

The first device is a Japanese imported device which enables video in motion and/or touchscreen usage at all times. I previously had a resourceit device which did half of that but fell short on the video front. I'm planning a second rear camera that I can manually activate so I want the screen to show that while driving, which this device will allow.

The second is a Pure Highway 300Di. It's an impressive little box which will play DAB+ radio, iPod, auxiliary input or a USB stick of music and then pass that to the stereo, either via the aerial or through your aux input plugs. The iPod control is not as good as the MMCS touchscreen but otherwise it seems pretty good, especially since I now have a bunch of extra radio stations to listen to.

One big disappointment though has been the gme aerial I bought to support the upgrade to DAB+. While it may have improved FM reception, and enables DAB+, the AM reception is worse than with the factory antenna. Fortunately the 3 main ABC stations are also digital so I can access them that way.

I'll probably look into whether I can get some sort of antenna switcher or whether I can combine the two somehow.

Now I just have to go back and tidy everything back up and reassemble my dash.

I played music off a USB stick this morning so I'm pretty much done now. Video in motion, DAB+, amped... Soon I will have a second and maybe third camera and then I'll be happy. For a month or two anyway.

The problem with giving up on the unit is that the sound I get out of it is superb. Better than you'll ever get out of the cheapie androids I'm afraid.

Is this due to the mods that you have done, or does the MMCS have really good sound anyway?

I'm curious, because every now and again, I get the opportunity to pick up an MMCS at a good price, and I was weighing up the benefits vs Digioptions.

Tricky question that. I've upgraded the speakers, added a sub and an amp. So sure I've played with it a bit.

On Tony's we just changed the speakers to a nice set of alpines and I reckon it sounds pretty sweet as is. Naturally these things escalate and he now wants a sub and an amp too but it would be quite adequate for most people without that.

The unit in question is made by kenwood and puts out 45w per channel from memory. It is quite limited in other ways, hence the various mods, but the androids don't have the best reputation for sound quality so I reckon I'm on pretty safe ground with what I said above.

Re: Taming the MMCS

Postby Cowboy Dave on Sun Dec 04, 2016 9:47 pm

So today I think it's fair to say the MMCS may have tamed me. I had a bit of an "oops" moment. I was removing the contact lock on a plug and it was setup differently to others I've played with. When it pulled it too hard not only did the lock come off, but all the pins came out with it. At which point the live wires shorted the others and I lost interior lights and god knows what else.

mmcs plug [censored] 1.jpg

mmcs plug [censored] 2.jpg

So off I went to the Australian workshop manual to print out all 8 pages of wiring diagrams for the MMCS. I sat down and drew the connector (C169) and started to work out the wiring colours and positions. Ended up with what I thought was a pretty good diagram and started putting pins back in the plug. At which point I discovered that my wire colours don't match the wiring diagrams... Some of them are fine. For example I have the green/red reverse trigger and the red/black constant 12v. Earths, fine, they all go the same place anyway. But I have an extra power wire and instead of a brown wire have some pink looking numbers.

To re-assemble it I'm going to have to trace back about half a dozen wires to see where they go and what they are. Not fun. Luckily half my dash is already off...

That said if anyone has some photos of the plugs/wiring on the back of the MMCS I'd love to see them. The one I'm working with just happens to be the one I've not taken my own photos of. It's the white plug with black locking plastic that sits lowest of the 3 plugs, the one that the microphone and reverse camera go into.
