You don't see them around much but I swear by Cibie lights. I run a set of Oscars on several 4wd's for over 20 years. Metal case, replaceable reflectors. Really good quality lights with very good reflector technology.
They have been the choice of rally drivers since the days of the Audi Quottro for a very good reason.
Not seen much in Australia as they don't bother marketing here, but they can be found.
I suggest a set of Super Oscars in spread/spot or spread/spread.
I don't like a spot 2kms down the road either, and always run spread/spread.

I am contemplating tossing the light bar that was on the ute when I bought it, and going Super Oscars in spread/spread.

Fyrlyts mate. Best I've seen. The globes are a little pricey but not over the top. Lens, reflectors etc all replaceable without tools. And they can be switched from spot to spread and back - again without tools.

The HID Narva lights are $650 in stores everywhere. They are a fantastic light and does not require large amounts of current to run. Very hardy and will last the test of time.
Nice white light but do give a bit of reflection when driving past street signs. I love them.
There must be a reason that new cares use HID headlights -

I am running hella Rallye 4000 wide beam - great lights for seeing the road verges and picking up the pesky roos.
I used to be uncertain but lately I'm not so sure.

I have the same but in halogen. Both are spreads but I'd like even wider. Maybe the roads round my neck of the woods are just too windy.

Narva Ultima 225 50w HID with Position LED

The work is done, the lights are on and I had a trial run.

I am very happy with these lights. For a cost on only $560 we have some really decent lights that will definitely make night driving safer. We went for a run up to some country roads, some twisty bits, a few long straights. On the straights reflectors on the road about 800-900m away were reflecting. There was very good light on the road for around 300-400m in front, and this is from the spread beam kit, I don't think theres a need for pencil beam. The lights are very white and very bright. Sorry didn't take pics. They turn on instantly, but take a few seconds to get to full brightness.
In the wiring loom kit, you get an adapter for H4 and H3 type globe setups that connect to your lights and hence add the HIDS to the High Beam circuit, which was very handy.
The bling bling LED lights need to be added to the parker light circuit and you have to do this manually. Obviously adding the LEDs is completely option, you don't have to if you don't want to.
I used a circuit tester on the parker light to find the correct cable. I then stripped a small section and soldered the LED wire on, heat shrinked and wrapped with Electrical tape - job done.

I'm looking for a new set of spotties, got light bar so want spot beam. Problem is I don't want any thing to fancy as I park up for days at a time at boat ramps and I'm sure they will go walk about if I go too flash.
Would rather get something from a local shop as I'm leaving for a trip in 3 weeks and don't want to rush not having them yet. But if I had to would go something from eBay and hope for the best.

I could get the nights above for a good price, probably for about 450 ish, maybe even 400. Would be prepaired to Streach thr budget to that if I'm told it would've worthwhile. But don't think I would want to go to the $600 off for the flyrlyts. They have a good rep, I would be spewing if they did go walk about.
If there any of the cheap "eBay" any good. I understand you get what you pay for. But I'm sure there would be ones that those in the know wouldn't touch, and others that may not be soo bad.

I do have roo lights at the moment, but been told the hid upgrade aren't very good, plus I'm constantly having to readjust the lights as they move around a lot. But others may know more then my current advice.

He wants something cheapish as he parks at a boat ramp carpark for extended periods snowie, don't you read.

I just fitted this cheap led spottie, has taken away everything the roo lights had, might have to replace them

I wouldn't be using roo lights as much of a benchmark to be beaten, just saying...

No, there has not. But Snowie, like me and pretty much anyone exposed to the fyrlyts in action is a bit of a convert. They're the best driving lights I've ever seen. Garth is just sick of hearing about them and clinging to the cibie lights his grandfather took off their horse and cart.
