They recommended the ac delco, deep cycle (10") 82ah for $229. Does this sound like a good price?
Anyone recommend something else?
Thanks

If your on a budget try Supercheap auto, they sell 100ah deep cycle century batteries for $200.

Dual Battery choice

I have 1x88ah gel under the bonnet and have 2 agm's in my tray 1x120ah n 1x120ah all hooked with a dc-dc charger never had any problems with my setup and I keep 2 fridges running 24/7 1x35L waeco that I use as a freezer and a 40L engel I have as a fridge. I find that the dc-dc charger does it's job and I only travel 25mins each way to work and it seems to be enough charge to maintain the batteries .

Geeze mate! Thats a setup!!

I'm limited to what I can fit under the bonnet. I use my tray and couldn't put it there or anywhere else. So a 10" it is for aux and I believe in that size 82 a/hr is the biggest. All from what I know anyway.

What does everyone think of the Odyssey batteries? I've got a friend who uses one half the size of mine to start his rodeo 2.8D, and it has no problems running his sound system (2x 1000W 2channel amps and concert speakers on the back of his single cab at camps). The thing that attracts me to them most is their compact size and massive power output and reliability.

Spoke with a battery guy today he reckons agm batteries are no good under the bonnet and I'm better with wet cell deep cycle, he has a "bond" deep cycle, wet cell 85 a/hr for around $230. Anyone heard of them?

Well my AGM has lasted longer than the AC Delco so far.

Also he will say that because of the heat issue, did he say that or just ramble on with no reasoning? That info would help others even though it is already here.

don't quote me but i recall the difference between the intimidator and seamate was that one of them (the more expensive one) has a special heat repelling casing for such applications as under the bonnet.

Which ever one it is - it is suitable for underbonnet use. make a call to a decent supplier.

I have been told by many battery specialist that agm's don't like the heat and should not be located under the bonnet that's why I went the duel purpose haze batt in the gel type .it's a crank as well as a deep cycle

Mine is under the bonnet, I was in Canberra when the deco shat itself, I eventually found the biggest battery store I have seen in Canberra and the guys there bypassed every battery and went straight to the one I got. They could not speak more highly of it and really did spend a lot of time with me, the best service in a battery store I have ever had. The Canberrians will probably know the store I am talking about, big one on a main road where cars go, not that far from ARB wanker store who treated me like crap.

I'm wanting to put a second battery in the tub to run a fridge, some lights and some other bits and pieces.
I have looked at battery trays and battery boxes but....... I would like the tray to hold it secure and the box to protect the top of the battery from things bouncing around in the tub. Is there anything on the market that combines the two? I havent been able to find anything The battery just doesn't seem secure enough in a battery box alone to me.

Mattz have a look on the abr sidewinder site. They have a battery box bracket that is designed to sit on top of the wheel arch and bolts onto the side of the wheel arch. It then has clamp down point you can use to fix the battery down to in much the same was as under the hood. I think they sell them on ebay as well which is where I stumbled upon them. They sell battery boxes too with a variety of fittings. If I was doing it over again I suspect I would go that way - or get some drawers and build it into that.

Edit: I shit you not but ebay sent me an email within 1 minute of the above post with a notice that this item has been relisted: http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=390389898308&ssPageName=ADME:B:WNARL:AU:1123

I use a battery box (from Sidewinder) and just tek screwed some brackets into the floor either side of the box so I can strap it down with the strap that comes with it. Solid as a rock. Lose a bit of space for packing. When it rusts out I'll replace everything with a custom tray

If I can do it without incident you should be able to man up and sort something out  I think my fridge /slide would make what CD is suggesting a bit difficult. Worth looking at though cos it would get it off the floor, although hard to use the room behind the fridge for packing anyway.

I thought you were the 'esky kid'. I think the quote was "do you know how much ice I can buy for what one of those fridges cost...?" bit like Schmuck's "The MN has never been bogged..." I guess. Shit talk! :P

Yet nice im thinking a 60l as they are a bit smaller in height got a while to work out how to fit it though as I still have rear bar and crawled gears and a front locker before I can afford a fridge.

Hi All,

I was wondering if the standard battery can be used as a deep cycle battery.

I just got a battery tray from TJM and it will fit a 10" & 12" battery as the original battery is 12" that means I only have room for a 10" .

So what I want to know is am I better off getting a 10" starting battery like an Optima Red Top and use the original battery as the aux and get a better 12" battery down the track or should I get a 10" deep cycle and a 12" later

I hope that makes sense

If you can afford it get a thumper, great bit of gear you put it in the back and take it out if needed to be left at your camp site or even put it in a caravan. Being able to move it around is great. Taking room in the back is a bummer but that's only a small compromise...

Heya guys, Just doing a bit of research. I am thinking of making a dual battery system my self, using 16mm welders cable. $5 a meter and has a silicon protection, less chance of melting.
It is for my fridge, just doing a bit of research on an isolator and would a 11.9v isolator be sufficent or less would be required?
