I'm sure i've seen the answer but can't seem to find it.

How have people run the thicker cable for their batteries into the tub? I've got a thin cable for the led's coming up under the wheel arch and shows up under the lip of the canopy. Would thicker cable make it thru there as well... Seems a bit risky of rubbing the insulation off?

If it does fit through wack some of that split conduit over the cable ;)

I have thick cable through there. You can buy double insulated twin core - it's very tough, thick stuff.

A how to on finding your own way - search me.

Ok, I'll give that a shot. Hopefully thick stuff will b easier to feed thru there than the thin wire. I remember it being a PITA.

Has any one writing up a DIY dual battery tread using the under bonnet systems??

I am confused as all F on what I need exactly for a simply dual battery set up

And each Autolec and 4wd store has told me different

I want a basic dual battery system under bonnet to run my engle and some camping led strip lights
Want the aux batter to charge up when I run the car and my engle to run off it when I turn my car off

All you need is a VSR.There are a heap of kits out there that will do the same thing.
I have a Matson branded one and its been good for me.As a matter of fact its my second. All I have is anderson plug down the back which I run the fridge off.
I see all these complex systems for power in the tray of a lot of utes and I dont understand why. Each to their own I suppose but for me I just want to be able to walk away from the ute for 24 hours with the fridge running and know that everything is going to be cold when I get back.Simple.
All these kits are dead easy to install.

Cheers

Hi Headake here is a link to my build thread, one of the first things I did was a under bonnet dual battery system with power to the tub it was very simple to do and works a treat. :D :D

Sorry I was going to dumb it down but I just assumed everybody knew  .....Voltage Sensitive Relay.Which just means that when the starter battery gets to a certain voltage(13.8 I think) it switches over and starts charging the aux battery. The VSR I have has a switch that can bridge the both in case the starting battery fails.
I hope that helps.
I wish there was a dumbed down section for this EGR,catch can stuff. Its to easy to just assume.
Please message me if you need to.

Basicly yes.

They all come with instructions.
Some tips though...Solder all joints, use heavier cable than you think to the back of the ute and make sure you have a good earth.
I will put some pics up of the battery if you want tomorrow.

To save starting a new thread, cuz there is tonnes of them on dual battery systems. Those guys who have mounted a dual battery tray under the bonnet, where or how did you re-route the main power cables that ran behind the original battery? I managed to knock up a dual battery tray on the weekend out of a mudguard from an old tray back tray(couldn't believe how well suited all the bends were :D ), but when I go to fit it, the main cables are in the way. Looks like they could possibly be moved, but want to check with anyone who's actually done it or purchased a TJM tray to see where they put them.

The main cables sit between the 2 batteries mate. Can get a pic tomorrow when things are a bit brighter outside

Cheers mate. Does that limit the size of the second battery? As it is you can only run a 12 and a 10" battery in there

Yeh bud, I got original 12in battery still and a deep cycle 10in battery as secondary battery behind it, pretty neat looking but tight fit that's for sure

Mate try hitting up TJM.. I got quoted $145 from my local TJM, so you'd instantly save $50 plus your postage....
