16" front disc brakes...?

Postby CamboWambo on Wed Nov 25, 2009 7:20 pm

The 2009 sales brochure from the stealer says that the front ventilated disc brakes are 16". But just looking at them I thought no way, so I did my best to try measuring them without removing a wheel/tire. I came up with 11 1/2". Is there a different measurement system the factory uses or could I be off by 4 1/2" for some crazy reason?

They may call it 16" due to the fact you need 16" rims to clear the calipers.
The rotors are definatly not 16" in dia.

I forgot to include that the brochure also states that 4WD and GLX 2WD models have the 16" front discs. All other 2WD's have 15" front discs and 4WD and 2WD GLX have 11.6" rear drums, all other 2WD have 10" drums.
So it might not be about rim size. Maybe a typo or something more devious 8-)
Do the brochures in your market make the same claim?

From memory they have single piston 60.6mm calipers and 295mm diameter (28mm thick) rotors.
The rear have 295mm diameter drums.
I reckon there's a very good chance for a NM/NP front brake upgrade to their twin 45.4mm caliper pistons even without changing the rotors which are 290mm (26mm thick) on the Paj.
So braking effort will go from 2x60.6mm (5766mmsq) vs 4x45.4mm (6472mmsq) swept area that's a 12.2% increase.
