Side Mirror Disassembly

Side Mirror Disassembly

Postby toby_w88 on Tue Apr 22, 2014 8:20 pm

Hi All,

I'm about to do a little project with the side mirrors on an MN, just wondering if anyone has pulled the actual mirror housing apart before and if there are any tricks to getting them apart? I'm guessing they originally bolt in the adjuster motor then the glass holder clips into place, but I'm not 100%

Thanks in advance

Kwijibo will know. There was also a post about replacing the glass but you may be after more than that by the sound of it.

Yep, you're right. Pretty standard arrangement. Not easy to take apart without breaking clip tabs. Be careful. ;)

Thew say a pic is worth a thousand words, so here are two. Hope they help.

Geez, I just love it when you try to help someone and they don't acknowledge your efforts, be they helpful or not.

And then the thread gets hijacked.

Ah forums, they can be a vast source of info, but surely a little courtesy goes a long way.

The other thing, Cage, is that he'd intended to remove the mirror, not the backshell which, as you'd know, doesn't give much in the way of access to the inner workings.

I have photos on the other pc at the moment, but to get that mirror itself out which will be the first move to disassembly you'll need a flat blade screw driver.

There is a channel behind the mirror which you can slide the screw driver up and lever that mirror off (it feels like you're going to break it but just be gentle it does pop off) its got little locator hinges at the top (thae bottom will pop out).

I've got photos from back when I ran extra wiring to the mirrors from inside the car to install heated side mirrors, which are pretty handy btw... But not so easy to squeeze cable through (had to disassemble whole bracket that mounts to door to feed cable through )

Hope that helps though
