Anybody running Maxxis Buckshot 265/75r16?

Postby 85HiluxSR5 on Tue Jul 07, 2009 7:16 pm

Looking at getting a set this weekend, have been quoted $265 per tyre + $110 for the black rim so for the price of a replacement set of mickey thompson tyres only i can have a full set of tyres with rims.

are they any good? as they look like an all terrain but i def wanna get them in the mud?

They are a muddy mate, they arnt too bad, wear pretty good aswel, as long as you rotate them! My mate had some on a patrol and got around 45000kms and still have a good 6mm left!

Go for the Bighorns then! Buckshots are cheaper and your right, they dont have much sidewall protection.

Here's a PM I got back from mmaaxx:

mmaaxx wrote:the silverstones are awesome.....on the road I drive like a grandpa so I look after them on bitumen....I have never ever had them slip or loose traction on me even in the wet.

they are noisy.....they have a slight howl but then again which muddies dont.....but between 60 to 80kph, they must achieve some sort of resonance at those speeds where they are alot louder....after 80kph, they quiten down abit....

I dont have any problems....neighter me misses or the 2 kids complain about it.

they are a 2 ply sidewall, but they are a thick 2 plies......you realise this when you air down the tyre offroad...it needs lower pressure to buldge the tyre out compared to my previous maxxis buckshots.

offroad...maaate!

these things rock offroad...they are fantastic on loose shale type rocky mountain trails....they are awesome in mud and everything else in between.

I havent had them fail me at all....those sidewall lugz really help crawling out of deep ruts....dont let people talk you out of them....yes, they are directional....so what, I havent had a problem with it.....even 4x4 action said in their tyre test that the Silverstones surprised them with their performance and recommended them for offroad duties as a second set of tyres.

Ive done 15,000km on mine so far, 99% bitumen and I reckon Id get atleast another 20,000km out of them depending on how far I want to wear them down.

when they get too worn I slap them on me trailer and put the trailer tyres back on the hilux...the buckshots I previously had and get simex for offroad.

price is goos, got mine for 245 each....have heard they are 285 now....shop around.

85-be interesting to see what you come up with, when i was looking at the MT117 Sport the smallest 16" was a 285/75/16 (33") (Hobzee sells them on Ebay) but there might be other sizes now.

I beleive the silverstone come in a 31/10.5x15 aswell as the 285/75x16....thats the only 2 sizes they come in.

mind you they are a big tyre.......these silverstone are quoted 11.3" wide on their website but are noticeably wider than my previous Buckshots in 285/75x16 which were stated as 11.6 inches wide.

yep- spoke to those guys early on- its unknown if anyone has bought that size into australia- chapel st said they've never stocked that size.

hobzee's are the 285/75 (~33") so with a decent amount of lift you should be able to get them under.

wombat offroad in ringwood also had the same size, but for ~$340 a corner you can score simex (can remember if they were ET2 or JT2) which kinda put the simex idea in my head. went to order some black trak2 rims and simex's from him and it all fell apart cause australian stock had run out. that was last year, and i've kinda neglected to do anything since :(
