Need something to get you rolling?

245/75/16

Apologise if this has already been covered,

Having just ordered my new L200 (as tritons are called over here in the Uk) its time to sort out some decent tyres, it comes as standard on 245/70/16's, I dont like standard! I currently run a discovery on 245/75/16's the biggest size i can fit without a lift. Now it seems everyone and his dog on here runs 265/75/16's, not a problem as this size is cheaper over here, my questions are;

1 does anyone have a pic of a triton on 245/75/16's and whats the gearing like?

2 how much is the gearing affected with 265's (it will tow 500kg everyday, its noticable in the discovery on 245's)?

3 randomly, we can get OME,ARB and TJM stuff over here, its not cheap and usually they only stock stuff for Land Rover, can anyone recomend other manufacturers of suspension, canopies, and bars ?

Cheers in advance

I found it does affect gearing in that some of the hills I used to tackle in 5th are now 4th gear.

Here's a couple of threads that will help with suspension and canopies
I'd rather have a full bottle in front of me than a full frontal labotomy!

i reckon a 245/75/16 would be perfect... i tried to get some but the only ones i could find were goodyear duratrax wranglers - they look pretty good but a month on the boat put me off and then if your out and about they are a really uncommon size ... i ended up going back to 245/70's...

what about 265/70/16, you can get these in a number of brands and they are about the same size as a 245/75... they will fit pretty easily under a triton... i should pull them off my pajero and give them a go! :)

In the UK 245/75's are more common than 265/70's, currently have two sets ATM running general grabber AT2 on my discovery and have a spare set of BFG Track Edge in the shed, was worried the triton would look too girly on them hence the pic request.

Cheers for the links, It seems i'm going to have to do some serious importing, unless you drive a Land Rover in this country there is nothing available!!

My guess would be that most either stay at standard size or go up to 265's either in 70 or 75 series. I can't think of anyone on 245/75.

Yes from viewing Top Gear one would be mistaken for thinking there was nothing else available other than those puss buckets.
No wonder they raved about the Lux.

I can't understand the "best 4wd in the world" carry on when Cruisers, Patrols, Pajeros and Prado's don't even get a mention. Generally all round better cars in their class than the Landy under almost any scrutiny - especially if you count "staying together" in the equation.

Must not get any Jap cars there at all from the number of little Italian and French vehicles they waffle on about...

Still love to watch it though
I hate to advocate drugs, sex, alcohol, violence, or insanity to anyone, but they’ve always worked for me.

I had 245/75 cooper st's for 30,000 kays and there was very little difference between them and the standard size for power.

Go the 265/75. You don't need a lift and your speedo will read correctly. The standard size tyres have the speedo indicating about 8% faster than actual road speed. Plus the ute will look a whole lot better!

Homer, don't get me started on the use of 4x4's in the UK, yes we get most of them but only 2% of them ever go off road, and when i say off road this is usually a grass field with a caravan on the back! Over here a BMW X5 is direct competition to a LC, Discovery, or Pajero!
