275/65R17 on MN Triton?

Need something to get you rolling?

275/65R17 on MN Triton?

Postby mjc85 on Mon Mar 29, 2010 4:46 pm

Taking delivery of a MN just after Easter and want to change the tyres straight away. Have read alot on the 50mm increase limit in QLD and decided to try and stay under this while going for the biggest tyre possible.

Will a 275/65R17 be too wide for a MN that has 245/65R17 as standard? OD is only increased by approx 40mm. Am thinking about going for the Bridgestone D694 LT

Cheers

Hi Mitch,
I have an ML and fit 275/70R17's on it no worries. have not had it scrape once. and i have been trying. i think you should be able to get 285's on it with out any rubbing. but dont know if there is much difference in what the ML and MN can fit. Hope this helps.

Hey mate,

I'm thinking - but don't know for sure - that you may have trouble fitting the 285 spare tyre underneath (with the std 7.5" rims on the MN you will fit the 285's on the wheels).

The 275's all fit well - even on 7" rims - but I have a lift (Diablo are you stock height?) and D694 LT's go as good as you could expect from an AT on dry tar and very good on the wet tar.

Off road seems OK too, but certainly not muddies.

You will lose some torque and HP though.

Your mod and wish list looks pretty good too mate ;)

Your tyres are technically illegal though Diablo at 66mm bigger than standard? I would love 265/70R17 ATZ 4 ribs but I don't ever want any legal implications because of tyre choice.

Cheers

Isn't Qld max 15mm increase??? Other states have 50mm...

yeah exactly... that's why I just decided to keep the standard tyres until they wear out (im only really doing mainly easy highway/beach runs anyway while it's new), then hopefully by the time it comes to replace the tyres, the proposed changes 'may' have gone through (to increase to 50mm), but not holding my breath. i couldn't justify the cost of only upgrade to the Bridgestone A/Ts with a 15mm difference.

although it's not that easy of a decision if you're going to be doing anything serious off road, where the height difference and tread may be more important..

let us know which way you go

thats pretty much what i have done. gpt about 38000 out of the factory tyres, and did not do anything much off road except a beach run or two. but now having a whole lot of fun with the much larger tyres.

Hey Guys
I hear mention of a "Baysie's bashplate"
I assume it's an engine bash plate replacement. Where do you get them, and how much are they?
Get a new MN GLX-R in the next few weeks and it's high on the priority list. But so many accessories aren't available for it yet.
Havin enough probs trying to find a decent suspension upgrade I can have faith in ;) So, suggestions there, too ;)
Cheers,
Scotty
