285/75R16 on a Standard Triton

Postby Zantus on Fri Jul 16, 2010 6:11 pm

This is not another thread asking if it can be done, this is picture proof that it can be done. I know it has been discussed before, but I tried it for myself and I'm just sharing what I saw.

All I did on this Triton was to take the front mudflap off, everything else exactly as it came out of the factory.....if you want to call it non standard because of that...whatever. I removed all my mudflaps within a few weeks of receiving my Triton.

I put one of my friend's Cooper STT's onto the standard Triton 7J rim. The 285/75R16 tyre has a true size of 32.8". On his 16x8 Cruiser rim with zero offset, it doesn't work at all, not even on level ground.

We tried it on the front and back, but focused on the front. I drove it up a mound and we bounced it up and down on the front bumpstop. It just just touches at the back of the front wheel arch at full flex and when the wheel is turned about 2 thirds to full lock.

Unfortunately I took no pictures on when we did that, but a few days I put the wheel back and flexed it as much as I safely could at home in my front garden.

Here are a few pics of what it looks like.

Sorry about the pic hosting site. It's my own site on my friend's server here in South Africa and there is a country wide problem at the moment. It will only be properly fixed by the 22nd.

I'm going to run 285's sometime in the next few months. I also bought a set of Staun beadlocks for 25% of what it should usually cost. The local importer had a sale as there is just no market for them in South Africa. I'm still deciding if I should fit them or not.

because atm the average fuel use for
standard 245/70/17 = 9-11lph
32inch tyres 10-16
can uou imagine the fuel use with 35's 18-20
and if you didn;t want it to use that much it would mean different diff ratios
