Tyre & Rim Weights (useless facts)

Some interesting measurements ...

245 70 16 Bridgestone D840 Tyre and Alloy Rim 23 K.G.

245 70 16 D840 Tyre (Half worn) 13 K.G.

16 inch standard Alloy 10 K.G.

BF Goodrich 255 70 16 (half worn) 21 K.G.

Steel Rim(7`) Standard spare & new tyre
29 K.G.

Steel Rim 16 K.G.

I Clearly need to get an interest! :geek:

Measurements were taken to keep weight in mind for planning a very long trip.

ie. Alloy rims over steel will save 6 K.G each.

Take a pair of levers for 2nd spare with tyre only (no Rim) will cut 10 K.G(alloy) . to 16 K.G(steel) .

Interesting to note the higher quality Bf Goodrich weighs 8 K.G`s more than the standard tyres.

Correct me if any math is wrong

Cheers

Interesting facts and why I went for alloy rims for my play tyres.

32 or 33" mud tyres are heavy enough without steel rims- especially if you them play with offsets (wider track) etc

will try and get some comparisons soon, will be interesting to add 235/85/16, 265/75/16, 265/70/17 tyres (all of the same brand) as well as 16x7" steel, 16x7 alloy, and 17x7 alloy.

29kg's for the 275/65/17 - 1/2 worn Bridgestone D694's on 17x7 ML alloys.

39kg's for the 265/75/16 - 1/2 worn Khumo KL71 muds on 16x8 steel sunnies.

Stopping distance was increased by 1/3 or more with the extra 10kg's unsprung weight...the ABS would not even activate in the dry.

Yes... Some of us would love to know how much the tread weighs.

If some one could measure a worn out tyre please?
