I fitted one of these as a secondary filter to our new Triton. http://www.dieselcare.com.au/mitsubishi ... filter-kit

It was a quick and easy fit. See these fitting instructions. http://www.dieselcare.com.au/images/sto ... ons_S4.pdf

They had a 10% discount deal going when we bought ours about a month ago so it was just under $300.00. I have no association with this company; just a happy customer. They were great to deal with and didn't mind answering my questions.

I'm not aware they do a 2um filter? if its what I think it is, it will only help remove water and any large bones etc, Our OEM filter is already 10um.

I see they are selling a bracket as well. It looks similar to one I saw on Western Filters site. I'd be interested to see a shot of that fitted up as it might inspire others on how to mount theirs.

I use this for all pipe thread sealing jobs inc gas diesel petrol and gate valves and skin fittings.....on my truck and boats professionally .its great cause it sets instantly and you can put your fittings in the position you want..with a solid leak proof seal...dry runs are advisable this stuff sets hard in seconds http://www.loctite.com.au/3320_AUE_HTML ... 0000009R89

Off topic but hope i dont get kicked in the nuts. Quick question then? Could i tap a small needle barb for my map sensor into my intercooler pipe then use this on the thread and not worry about it coming out? Just looking as an option instead of brazing one in.

hi mate brass and alloy a no no will eat a hole in the alloy eventually..
so for alloy its weld one or a threaded alloy needle barb.
any way you will have to remove the part so you can clean the inside of swarf from the internals of what ever your drilling.
so little bits of metal don't get sucked into your motor...and at that stage you might as well weld it on.
it should never leak with a good tig weld.. but with the other there is a chance of it leaking as the alloy is thin walled you would need at least 5mm to do a solid thread. seems to me more mucking about than tiging a little tube of alloy on..

There are other threads somewhere on this subject... If you search, you will find. ;)

The factory unit does not cover the injectors in terms of micron filtration. This is the reason why I went post factory. The factory already has a water sensor, so going post would hopefully trap the rest prior to engine failure?

//I have been through 3 RACOR filters already in 30K.... (to one factory filter)
They block faster than anticipated. :| One crap tank of diesel and it is all over... Filter is a lot cheaper than a engine. :D

What brand is your secondary filter and where did you get it from?

I am looking at installing one too.

sure:

Not at all cheap.

You will need some hose and small clamps too. Not to mention build a bracket like referenced below in a image...
Used fuel injection hose on mine, you will only need 250mm of it if located like mine within earshot of stock unit. ;)

Looking at where people are putting their secondary filter, it would appear that the washer bag that xrox offers is in the same spot.

Anyone running a second filter and found a new spot for this bag?

How big is the bag? There is still a bit of room between the battery tray and the racor. Finally got around to plumbing mine in today. Been sitting in there disconnected for quite a while.

For those after the smaller Dahl 65 2 micron unit mentioned by Tony here is a place you can buy it:

http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Dahl-65-Diesel-Fuel-Water-Separator-Assembly-std-w-2-Micron-Filter-Flows-76L-H-/380533422029?pt=AU_HeavyMachineryParts&hash=item58998f37cd&_uhb=1

For those looking to get the Racor - ebay US is your best bet as the Australian prices are a bit outlandish for the most part.

It's a 445R. I got mine from this ebay seller - I sent her an ebay message and we did the rest off ebay. Was about $165 for the main unit compared to $330 from western filters in Sydney http://myworld.ebay.com.au/6573patricia/
