After market fuel filter

Postby Goldstorm on Mon Oct 20, 2008 8:30 pm

Is anyone running an after market fuel filter on their ML diesel triton. I purchased a new genuine filter today $70 (ouch) but haven;t installed it yet.
Berrima diesel said they cannot fit a CAV filter because it is a common rail system. I would prefer something I can change more often and is a whole lot cheaper

Hi Goldstorm Ihave been using a Filtrap 120 sedimentor which is the same as a cav filter with the glass bottom under the filter with a water drain. The only thing I had to do was silver solder 12 mil barb fittings over the top of the supplied 3/8 inch fitting.
Filter cost $3 to replace and easy to detect water or sediment, have been ustng this four two years now with no problems it is used in conjuntion with the original filter it last longer

Hi Bill,
I was wondering where you fitted this filter as I am interested in doing exactly the same thing. I figure that with all the reported hassels of commonrail and water it wouldn't hurt to have extra protection.
