Coughy, did you remove the diesel tank to access and remove the whole fuel gauge unit? Can you please share how you remove the fuel gauge unit? Thank you very much.

Tank has to come out.
Run down tank till nearly empty
Unbolt tank. 4 nuts and bolts.
Drop tank.
Undo elect connector, supply and return lines
Gauge sender unit is held in place by 6 nuts.
Unit pulls out.

Total job should take about an hour at most

If those pick ups were prone to clagging up I'd chuck em and relocate the function external to the tank.

very easy remove back seat lift up carpet remove 2 hoses and electric plug
undo 6 8mm nuts and whala it is out
do same for refitment
after fitting new filter
was a little bit but not worth doing now i know it is done all good
i dont go to dodgy fuel stations so all good no bones in the tank either lol

I've done a mod for that filter screen... It's called "removed for good". [FACE WITH TEARS OF JOY]

The screen is useful srb but would be handier outside the vehicle.

Be even better to catch any crud while filling, before it gets into the tank.

Ideally would be one of those water seperating filters integrated in the filler neck with provision to pull it out for cleaning. There's an opening for some entrepreneur.

Yeah, they're a brilliant idea, you wouldn't go outback without one.

After cracking 200k I'm really keen to drop the tank one day and see what's been accumulated.

Yeah they're definitely a good idea if travelling outback.. I never carried one on my travels but if I had of it might have saved a few cartridge filters. I went through 4 factory filters and 3 secondary filters in just on 70,000 outback km's. I wasn't running that tank filter due to damaging the tank mid trip.. The filter got destroyed when doing a track side welding repair to the tank.. It was only a small explosion.
I never bothered to replace it as I have sufficient filtration anyway.

So If you're worried about it blocking up and reducing your fuel flow, Coughy.. Just remove it.
