How big is the actual tank capacity

Postby patto on Wed Apr 01, 2009 7:10 pm

Guys trolled through a number of threads trying to find this info.

But how big is the actual tank on the ML triton Diesel? is it 75ltr.

I have just gone through my receipts and all my re fills are for 60ltrs ( when the fuel light comes on) If the tank is 75 lts i think the light is a bit premature.

I could go to the extreme and drain the tank to see how many litres are left in the car once the light comes on next.

Also has anyone ever ran out of diesel in there ML - whats it like or whats involved to get it re started?

I did have the task once of draining the entire tank  and got just over 70 litres out.

the manual says 75ltrs - but i am the same as i guess most - can only get max 65 ltrs as the trip computer gets to 50 kays left and then goes blank. I say dont trust the trip computer or the manual.
I was born with nothing and still have most of it left.

I've pushed my luck a few times with a Jerry Can on board just in case.... I've not done it before, but there is a primer pump.

I stretched my luck one day and the a Triton stoped 500mts from the servo. I rolled to a stop and managed to point the front of the truck uphill before it stopped I restarted it again and made it to the servo. It took 76lts and that was right up to the top of the filler spout. So it has a 75lt tank with 1lt in the filling spout. Since then I have managed to get 150km after the light comes on and still have fuel in the tank.

I managed 74 litres Sunday. The last 65km with the light on had me needing to change the jocks. Does anyone know if the light comes on later when towing and loaded. I usually have 13 litres left when it comes on with normal driving but this time seemed a bit short. :?:

It took 76lts and that was right up to the top of the filler spout. So it has a 75lt tank with 1lt in the filling spout.

on a recent trip home we were 90klm out of Yass, i had a few (3 supers in one hour) so i let the wife run the freeway (the triton is her daily drive so i had a kip). lucky as half hour down the road she got RBT'd  when i woke i looked at the klms to empty and it said we had 240klm and then i looked at the gauge and it was on empty then two minutes later the light came on and then the wife started to panic. we cruised until we seen a sign for browning so we went in to find the servo was shut. the ute had barley stopped and she was out my turn to drive. i figured get it as close as i could and we made it, it took 76lts and i said "see i told you we'd be fine" :o :o ;)

It might have something to do with the angle the ute is on. If the trailer makes it squat in the arse, then the light may come on later. I don't think the light is triggered by the computer, more likely a sensor.

Nods. Get just over 130L in the Ironman tank, when filling to the brim ;)
