Hi intake snorkel

Anyone seen/heard got one of these?
They appear to be same as the snorkel monster was flogging.

Other than issues with the aerial, should this fit????

Look at that bar!

I thought it was the old towing A frame link for making an 8wd for a second.

What do you think they use that for in England?

Looks good. i was thinking on fitting one of these since i found out the air coming into the car was about 45 deg on a cool day! Besides the aerial and having to remount the radiator bottle these should fit. they dont give much detail on the "mounting kit" do they! Aerials are easy to change out, there is this power amplified skarkfin like the BMW's have that would look cool. The hardest bit is filling the old hole!

PS still no fitment on the Lid Lok. the new fastback required it to be mounted different to the hard top!

Should be here about the 15th.
Thinking of a "shark fin" aerial to replace the antenna - anyone got one?

Snorkel is on its way direct to me from Thailand.
From the pics I've seen it looks like it has a recess built in to allow for the factory antenna to remain in situ.
In any event, I am going to replace the antenna with a boosted shark fin type - either installed in the roof or at the back of the canopy.
Also looking at some wide (very wide) smooth finish flares from the same supplier.
Now is a great time to buy these bits with the Aussi doing so well against the US and the pound.

Nice Scoop Amalinze, looks very cool. Not being a prick, but does it do anything apart from look very cool? Is it cut into the bonnet or new bonnet entirely?

The scoop is cut in. If i didn't do that it would have sat much higher and done nothing. It does keep the engine cooler too!

I was going to get a new bonnet to do that to but i realised that they were about $600 unpainted and then i would have had another one sitting around. I'll just buy a new one when i sell the car and ebay the scoop one.

P.S. Tassie, can you send me those pics or links to the pics your talking about with the recess for the aerial?

Snorkel has arrived!!!

The good news:
It looks fanatastic and hugs the curves of the ute beautifully.
The indention at the top is definitely a recess for the aerial so it will not need to be removed.

The bad news:
No instructions and no template for the holes to be drilled into the guard.
It's going to be a b%#ch to fit. The ABS unit will need to be moved as well as the wiring harness fixed to the side of the unit. TJM reckon it will take 5 hours to fit but are confident that they can do it.

The $64 question
The intake at the top of the snorkel faces backwards (which you might recall was Monster's big selling point).
I read on the fitting instructions for the safari snorkel that the intake should not be faced rearwards as doing so may create a vacuum in the air intake and cause severe engine damage!
My thinking is that a vacuum may well be created if the safari intake is turned around becuase it sits in space. However, the intake on this snorkel sits down on the roof which will make the creation of a vacuum much less likely.
Plenty of the Thai Tritons run these snorkels so I doubt that there are issues with vacuum.

Anyone got any thoughts?

I have found a few threads on rear facing snorkels. Looks like there may be some issues with venturi/vacuum effect.
Anyone got any firsthand experience?

Local Mrsbitchy dealer says no issue with rear facing snorkel so getting it installed this week.

Does anyone know:

1 how hard it is going to be to move the ABS unit (out off the guard a bit and a bit further away from the steering wheel); and

2 what the wiring harness is that hangs off the side of the ABS unit?

Moving the ABS Unit? That sounds difficult and expensive... Was that included in your quote from TJM?

yep - they reckon about 5 hours all up to the job including moving the ABS and making a new fixing for the airbox.
