Hey guys just after a few opinions on a little issue I'm having with my stealer.
Well I noticed I had a bit of fluid coming from my drivers side steering rack boot, so I took into mitsubishi to get checked out only to find out i need a new steering rack, and I'm up for the cost, because they reckon there was a hole in the boot due to an impact. So they charged me $70 and I went outside jumped under my car to have a look and after 10mins I manage to Find a tiny hole about the size of a pin head, almost at the top of the boot (which rules out hitting anything). So I went back inside and questioned the head mechanic, who then went to say it must have happened when I had my diff rebuilt by opposite lock. ( mitsubishi pulled it out mind you and opposite lock rebuilt the locker and reinstalled it). And that even a hole that size can cause dirt and grit to get inside the boot which destroys the seal.
So next I went to opposite lock, because I wasn't prepared to wear the cost of something else I haven't done. They had a good look and disagreed with mitsubishi saying the whole was so small it couldn't let anything in especially considering it's only been 9 weeks since the rebuild, but still agreed to cover the cost of a seal kit ect or they would go me halves in a new steering rack, but they wanted me to get another opinion.
Next I took it into a local transmission shop who also specialises in steering racks. They totally agreed with opposite lock and said it should still be covered under warranty as there is no way that tiny hole could have caused the seal failure.
I called the stealer today who told me the warranty guy wasn't there today and that they will call me Monday. I totally understood mitsubishi not covering my diff due to the locker, then they denied warranty for a cv because they said it was failing due to suspension travel on hard lock which I was pissed about but took it on the chin, but this I think is ridiculous and I'm over it.
do you think I have a chance?
