Yep this has been going on for years. My old man caught out Mitsubishi 25 years ago by marking the bolts and I have been marking my bolts ever since.

Do you mark so its blatantly obvious to the service guys, or do you try and conceal the marks and then call them out if they look untouched?

Depends on how I am feeling. The preferred mark is a small scratch with a screw driver against the bolt.
