Air filter K&N

Postby the d on Sat Jul 21, 2012 8:30 pm

Hey Guys

I have done a search and cant find any info on K&N air filters. Can some give the part number for a K&N air filter to suit ML 3.2L.

I checked out K&N website and they only list an air filter for 2.5L engines.

I am hoping that I still have the box in the garage, so I might be able to look at it for you. Either way, I am pretty sure that the air filter in the 2.5 is exactly the same as the 3.2...just quietly...

It's exactly the same. And it has been done to death. If you look into it a bit you'll find that the consensus ends up being that the unifilter might be more the go if you're ever going to leave the black top.

One thing for a uni filter is make sure the oil is dry.. Otherwise maf(mass) sensor will need cleaning as the oil will get sucked through then dust and crap will stick to sensor and effect stuff...

Um...... I put quite a bit of oil on my Unifilter and clean the MAF sensor each filter clean (7500K)

The MAF is never dirty or oily, the filter is filthy on the inlet side, clean on the engine side.....

Best way is to squeeze as much of the oil out of it as you ca, you actually can't take to much out by hand squeezing.
To much oil on the filter defeats the point and will restrict airflow.
I spent a heap of time chatting to the suppliers about this, most people think that a lot of oil on the filter is a good thing when all that is needed is for the filter to have a minimal amount for it to do its job as designed.
