45,000km Service Price

Postby Sapient on Sat Sep 13, 2008 7:04 am

Have given up on my stealer, but still wanted the full log book service thing. UltraTune were around the corner from work, figured I would give em a go.
45,000 service which includes oil filter, air filter, engine, diff, gearbox and transfer case oil change. I got a discount because I have a unifilter element, so air filter change wasnt required.
Also fitted my Fumitomo oil drain and flushed the brake and clutch fluid for free. (had complained of a spongy brake pedal when coming through Bells Line of Road on the weekend)
Was a little concerned when I dropped the car off, they seemed disinterested and frankly didnt fill me with confidence, but when I returned to pick up, the mechanic came out to go over what had been done and spent some time talking about how much he likes Tritons, then proceeded to go through what he had done and found during the service. I ended up feeling very comfortable with him and what they had done.....other than hotfixes and warranty issues I can see no reason to ever go back to the stealer again!

Didn't bring this up with him at the time, but I would of thought that the fuel filter would be changed at the 45k service?

Service cost $458.00, had been quoted $600+ by stealer, and she runs heaps better and quieter!

I was wondering did they use genuine mitsubishi parts for the service at that price.

Mate at work just got charged a similar figure for his Navara - apparently it's quite labour intensive changing the timing belt on a diesel - stealer was quite red faced when said mate informed him the oiler is chain driven and the price came down to ~$600

I just paid $880..

I did not think it was to bad considering the amount of work they did. Diffs Transfer case, gear box. PWR str, brk fluid - oil/fluid change. Plus the engine tune. They also knew that i have blocked the EGR so they ran an apparent system re-learn the car now operates properly with out the egr.

I went to 3 different Transmission guys for pricing of the diffs, gear box, transfer case oil change and they were all around $600 just for that side.. Also not affecting the 10yr driveline warranty by having mitsub do the work.

Do you notice anything after the re-learn mate, and was there any reason for it other than just doing it because they knew about it?

Mate i have nowhere near the amount of engine clatter going on. It actually sounds like its running tight and not like a bucket of spanners. She is really pulling down low..

Im not sure why they did it, but the service manger just wanted to ensure that air fuel ratio's etc were all sweet.

Sounds like a good dealer mate.

Glad your problems are sorted. Wasn't good for you, but probably gave these guys more practise and understanding of the 3.2 than a years worth of oil changes

I was quoted $1100 for the 45K service by Mandurah Mitsu.. Ultratune did it for $730 - I'll never understand how dealers don't go under with their ridiculous service charges.

B great to have the software to have a nice "chat" with the ECU.

Mothman's service costs seem in the ballpark except the 90k!

If you're not driving through rivers, etc then some of these drive line oil changes seem a bit of "overservice"

I looked at the Wrangler last year and had a look a the service intervals. Cost of oils (all synth stuff) and frequency of service visits would have you spending huge amount over five years and forever making dates with the stealer. (people would start talkin). Having a Motori designed diesel, it had the usual timing belt money grabber in there too. (include Hyundai/Kia/Captiva? in this dealer perk)
Don't let the b'strds get you down!!

45K Service

Postby martyboy on Wed Nov 18, 2009 11:20 am

Hey guys,
long time no posts for me...
I have my 45k service tomorrow (Major for the DiD). I called up my local dealer to book in and though why not ask what its gonna cost me and he tells me $740.00! Once I got up off the ground I went though the costs with him and learnt about the majoy service. With this I booked in the then decided to call 3 other dealers in the vicinity including that one I dropped 44K on for the car and below are the variation in costs

Frankston Mitsu : $740.00 (booked in)
Knox Mitsu: $840.00 - I bought it from here and reminded them of that and then told them my first quote which he reluctnantly matched. even with matching it he wont get my business
Penfold Mitsu: 41070:00 - I giggled a bit and asked if he was serious, proceded to tell me how serious he was and then something else but as he rambled on my phone hung up on him...not sure If it was my subconcious or just plain rude but he wont have a chance at any of my hard earned.

I cant understand how they can differ so much but from my experience I will continue to be serviced at Frankston mitsu as I have been for the past 20 months.

Just thought I would share it with you guys in case anyone is close to the 45k service or used any of the mentioned delaerships.

Re: 45,000km Service Price

My truck has been due for the 45k service for a about a week now... when i got my 15k service done for a cool $310 from one of the dealers on the coast i didn't bother ringing around for the 30k and went to the same place... i was literally stunned when they asked me for $770, and being the quiet shy person that i am i promptly paid and left never to return  .

So when it came to the 45k service i actually rang around to different dealers... almost all the dealers in fact (between gold coast and brissie), and racked up a bit list of prices, and they varied by alot, the cheapest i was told was $770, and the most expensive was $1100  (same place as 30k service surprise). when told i would supply my own engine oil the cheapest ended up being $680 (some places said they will take off $140 for that oil!!).

So with that knowledge i rang up my old local mechanic mate who's shop is no more than 5 minutes down the road and asked him how much he would do it for, and he said around 400 bucks!! needless to say i booked it in immediately for this friday, and ya feel confident leaving it in his hands (not having to put secret markings to make sure they change oils), plus hes always charged fairly/cheaply and done a good honest job (christian mechanics will do that) 8-) .

So thats my experience, will be sticking with him again form now on, except for the once yearly service with mitsu to keep the roadside assist thing that i read about on here a while back...

Do you mean you have it serviced again in the same year[twice yearly?] by Mitsubishi just to keep the roadside assist going?
:?

There seems to be lots of confusion about what needs to be done at the various services but it's all in the 'Service and Warranty Book' Pages 13 - 17 including times.
I would make sure it's been serviced as stated otherwise the warranty will be history if Mitsubishi find out come claim time.
45,000km within 3 years service, apart from looking, needs the following for a 4x4 3.2

Replace - brake fluid, transmission fluid/oil, transfer case oil, front and rear diff. axle oil, engine oil and filter, air cleaner element.
Audible check of valve clearances, adjust if required.

2.6 hours + 1.5 hours if they decide to do the valve clearances + oil and parts.

Fuel filter[diesel] is supposed to be changed every 30,000km not at the 45,000km service.
You could demand the money for that back if they didn't get your approval before they did it. $100 fitted?
