timing belt 2.5L diesel (4D56)

Postby sIMONATOR2 on Thu Jan 16, 2014 6:36 pm

hey guys, ive made a genuine effort to search the forum but cant find any info about changing the timing belt on a 2.5L Diesel (4d56)

I have purchased a Triton with 135,000 km on the clock and I don't know if the timing belt has been changed on it so im going to change it my self, just wondering if anyone has done one that could give me some advice on timing marks, if I can get away with reusing the tensioner, do I need a full kit or can I get away with just the belt? how big is the job, does anyone know a website to get the parts from because the cheapest I can get a full kit for is over$300.

cheers

I had mine done, and the balance belt was worse than the timing belt. I was advised to buy the kit with tensioner, idler pulley, two belts, for $500.

Hope that helps.

My mechanic did both belts as well but not the other stuff. Said it was a bitch to do but labour for the whole service only come to $300, so wasn't that bad

The balance belt would be behind the timing belt and not seen until the timing belt cover is removed.

Mitsubishi are very clever like this.
I haven't seen a balance belt but have seen plenty of Mitsubishi belts ;)

x2. Don't skimp money or parts on doing this job...! If it subsequently 'fails' as a result of you trying to cut corners now, and save a few, lousy bucks, it's gonna cost you --BIG TIME--....! Spend $500 happily now, and avoid paying $10,000 later for a whole replacment donk...!

I just had mine done and the pro's managed to hole the radiator removing the fan. A few others have had the same thing happen. Be very careful if doing yourself.

Just clicked over 115k km's so will get onto it soon I guess

Sorry for the late reply guys, I've been away......

If someone has good mechanical mind and has done other timing belts before, then these are not any different. The timing marks are easy to see once your in there ;)
(It was the valve clearance I wouldn't recommend doing yourself  )

I only did the belts as I was quite happy to use the tensioner again this time..... Next time I'll replace it too.

Here's a couple of pics for you from my build thread.......

It's nothing, a couple of hours on a weekend will have it done. Like any job take your time, do it once and do it right, check and re check.

Gates timing belt part number for 2.5l common rail

Postby sIMONATOR2 on Tue Jan 21, 2014 6:52 pm

hey guys, does anyone know if gates pn TBG01058 is the correct belt for a 4D56T

here is a link to the ebay site,http://item.mobileweb.ebay.com.au/viewitem?sbk=1&nav=SEARCH&itemId=121123194429 it says the pack also contains the balance belt. Has anyone had experience fitting belts to this engine? can the hydraulic tensioner be reused safely at 135000 km?

also my Triton is built in the 10th week of 2010, has a 2.5L common rail diesel engine, under the bonnet it says it is a 4D56, but it seems there are many versions of the 4D56 dating back to the early 90s, is my engine a 4D56T? trying to order parts is a nightmare, I have rang a few Mitsubishi outlets but haven't struck the most knowledgeable people on the other end of the line.

cheers

Yeah because you've posted as simonator and then simonator2 and about the same thing so it looks like it's one person with 2 user names.

I don't know the answer to your question but the advertisement certainly reads like it is the correct part. I went to the gates website to have a look at their online catalogue to double check but they wanted a whole bunch of sign up information so I gave up. Might be worth your while though.
