The local recycling depot (they have a drum) , some Supercheap autos have a drum for waste oil, some service stations let you put it in there drum (people remove for free or pay for drums of waste oil)

I've noticed that the Supercheap Auto stores here now have a bin out the front where you can put your used oil, in containers. That's nice and handy for those that need it.

If work is so terrific, why do they have to pay us to do it?

However...
Bastards in the factory had done the filter up so tight, we ended up damaging a close turbo hose trying to get it undone. I mean, we ended up using 3 different professional filter wrenches, which all couldnt do it, and resorted to the old "whack a screwdriver through with hammer" technique, which is ludicrous on a new vehicle! Even this way, we barely got it off!
Torqued correctly, my ass! Idiots. :?

Im going to buy a proper faceted oil filter socket next time. Shouldnt need it, but some Bitsa idiots obviously cannot install an oil filter properly.

I've been doing filters up by hand for 35 years no prob..

I have clocked up 8000 km on my new MN and thought I'd do an interim oil change before the scheduled 15000 service.

Bought one of the Fumoto drain valves, with a nipple attached, but there doesn't seem to be sufficient room to install it. The gap between the sump drain plug and the bash plate just isn't big enough.

Could remove the nipple and then it looks like it will fit ok, but that sort of defeats the objective of achieving a nice clean oil change with no leaks/spills.

Anyone come across this problem?
Or using their Fumoto nipple-less?

might depend on your bash plate. mine fits fine (3.2l)

some members cut a hole through the plate to allow access to the valve

Mine has plenty of clearance. What make of bash plates do you have?

It's the original fitment.
Maybe bash plate is not the correct terminology, I was referring to the pressed metal protective shield extending rear from just near the radiator.
I'm guessing it would have to be removed to allow proper access to the oil pan/sump plug at service time. Would require about 6 bolts to be removed.

Yes you'd have to remove it the first time. After that you'd add a hole to take a piece of hose for when draining the oil. You're better off replacing the stock plates which are only marginally thicker than alfoil. Should be only 4 bolts to remove the rear one.

Not unless the valve is faulty or something. But I've not heard of any faults.

Just checked one out. Has a lifetime warranty. $4 a washer per change. Sounds like the thing will pay for itself after 10 changes and so easy, Ill have to get one next service.

The ease is good but not as good as the no mess. Stick a hose on the nipple and you can drain straight into a bottle or pretty much any container.

Agree with CD, the first change I did was very messy then lost the sump plug and washer into the 10 litre bucket that was fun finding. Replaced with Fumoto drain valve then next service was all over and done with so fast and clean. Pisses my neighbour off no end I can tell you.

"recommended" 6 month services.... Money grab or what??

Postby Graeme1957 on Fri Oct 14, 2016 7:15 pm

I received a letter yesterday informing me that my Triton had been scheduled in for a service on 7th November, so I rang the Stealership involved and asked the question....

"What's the story? My next service, according to the windscreen sticker, isn't until 30,000 or May 2017."
"Oh, this one is an interim service." says the lass with the thick Indian accent...
"Why?"
"It is recommended by Mitsubishi."

A quick check with Mitzi Australia shows that yes, a bi-annual service IS recommended..... but only if one is driving in "extreme" or "harsh" conditions..... And I don't.

Well.. I don't think so..... (well I wouldn't call driving the Mundaring Pipeline Track every second weekend "extreme" or "harsh"... would you other Sandgropers?)

So anyway, I rescheduled it until the end of November, because we are heading across the OLD Eyre route to Adelaide for Chrissy....

Just wondering if this is a curiously W.A. thing or if the Eastern States stealerships try this one on as well.....

yes m8 it is a money grab
a sales pitch to get more money in the doors
we have lease plan cars and they wont pay the dealers for them so they dont get done
and our cars are driven like there stolen and idle alot so yer only serviced 15k intervals in turbo diesels ;)
at 100k a year they do so we have a high turn over in cars

They have you by the short and curleys as there idea of extreme driving conditions includes stop starting in traffic and who doesnt do that, think i may do an oil and filter change myself.

Thanks for the input guys.
I had a sneaky suspicion that something was not quite Kosher about that.
It's odd that they are trying it on for my Triton but they didn't for the Pajero....

(Oh, and thanks to whichever Moderator it was that moved my errant post into the correct thread... )
