Sorry to resurrect old threads, but it seemed better than starting a whole new one for what has probably already been covered.
What is the consensus of opinion on the 2.5 MN's doing mostly city driving with a weekend of 4wding about once a month or so, do you people generally drop your oil at 7500 intervals, or do you go the full 15000kms.
I've heard all the stuff that says that modern oils, modern engines, 15000 is ok, etc.
But considering it's 5000km intervals on my old Patrol, it seems a bit hard to believe that I could be getting it changed as little as once a YEAR !
I'm inclined to think that about every 7500 I might drop the oil, if not also do the filters, but might just be pouring good money down the drain. What do people here generally do with theirs?

I changed mine at 7500 and it looked like tar. If your dealer uses Magnatec I reckon you'll decide to change it too once you see the colour it goes. There's an oil thread around somewhere where there is a little tap thing you can replace your sump plug with to make these things easier.

Every 5000km for oil for me.

Haven't changed the fuel filter yet (25k on the clock), which is a bit slack... Better get on to that.

Be aware the book classes city driving (continuous stop-start) as extreme conditions so recommends 7.5k oil changes. Any 4wding would further convince me to drop oil at 7.5k

Was in the neighbourhood of the local mitsu dealer today, since Im nearing 5000kms and a nice new fumoto valve came in the mail, I figured I'd pick up a new filter for the MN 2.5 and drop in some fresh oil.

$62 for the oil filter! :o

My jaw nearly hit the floor! I asked for trade pricing (which I've always gotten at Ford), yet the girl behind the counter wouldn't be in it unless I had proof of trade, which of course I don't.

I noticed the part number is different from the ML series diesel, but I would have thought I'd be looking at around $40 for gen filter?

Anyone else bought a MN 2.5 oil filter lately? How much was it? I know I've probably been had, but to what degree I'd like to know

I was going to do filters and oil every 5k kms, but Im seriously rethinking that now... I might just do fresh oil and let the filter run a little longer.

I change oil and filter every 5000k. (Delo 400)
I pay $7.85 (MN Triton) for a genuine oil filter from Bangkok. We have a manufacturing facility in Thailand and there is always someone travelling so I now have 10 spare oil filters. Next week one of the engineers is due to return and he will bring back air and fuel filters.
I was quoted $66.00 by the local mitsi dealer. The Thai price is Baht220 from a Mitsi dealer near our factory.
The genuine filter also say's on the box to change the filter every 10000k's. Go figure!!

Yes this is the current MN 2010 2.5.
I brought 6 back in my luggage and another engineer I was trasvelling with brought 4 back.
They showed up in the customs xray and they didn't care. The customs bloke asked why and when I explained he said he would be doing the same. I guess commercial quatities might be another case.
And MMAL will be buying them cheaper than $7.85 so it shows how much they are ripping us off. There is another aftermarket filter in Thailand that is aprroximately $2.80 to $3.50. If anyone wants to see the Thai sales invoice, just send me your email address and I will PDF it to you.

I did my oil yesterday at 7,500 k. I was going to do the filter as well until I rang the nearest Mitsubishi dealer which was Zupps at Aspley and asked the price - a whopping $67. Anyone know where you can get them cheaper than that in Brisbane?

I'll be scouting Bangkok with an empty suitcase for sure next time I am in the area.

I picked up a genuine filter for my MN this afternoon - first price quoted $68 WTF  .

I said: "Mate, I don't want the gold plated one - What's the trade price?"

Parts bloke at counter (after working out the 'new' price): "That'll be $58 thanks".

Me: "Why are they so expensive?"

Parts man: "It's the Japanese tsunami and earthquake".

Me: "But the filter is made in Thailand!"

Bloody stealers

Edit: Anyone going to Thailand? There would be a lot of folks on this forum that would like to place an order!
