Oil Warning light staying on

Postby Big Brad on Sat Sep 03, 2016 2:35 pm

Hi Guys

2006 Ml v6 355 000klm

Oil light came on whilst driving ( first time ever ) :o so straight to servo. Was low but still showing on dipstick so topped up.

Light stayed on. It would go out slightly with higher revs but solid for normal driving.

Drove to mechanic who did oil change 5000 klm ago and he checked with computer thingy and advised it still had oil pressure but couldn't say how much. No codes were showing either but oil light is still on.

He suggested going to Mitsu so they can throw their scan tool on it as shows more than mechanics does.

Any ideas from you guys whilst I wait??

Cheers

Brad

Could be simple as dodgy pressure sensor, given age and kms.

Also possible worn oil pump or faulty wiring.

If had no oil pressure would rattle like crazy.
I'd try replacing the pressure switch first. They usually weep oil when stuffed.

After researching the ideas they seem spot on so that is where I shall attack first.

Good news mate ;) Also good to see those old V6's still battling on after 350K's. My 07 V6 just ticked over 150K. Years of motoring enjoyment to look forward to :)
