Engine won't start after Timing Belt replacement

Postby sebarg on Wed Sep 21, 2016 10:16 am

Hi Guys,

I hope i posted this in the right section. On Friday we changed the timing belt for the 400.000 kms. Also replaced the oilpump but now the engine won't start!
It spins but won't fire.
If I wait for the glow plug to heat up, it fires for less than a second and switches off
We scanned it with this chineese scanmers but no code is showed.
All the timing points match. Don't really know what else could it be. Any help would be greatly apreciated

Cheers

Did you search first?

http://www.newtriton.net/phpbb/search.php?keywords=timing+belt+start&terms=all&author=&sc=1&sf=all&sr=posts&sk=t&sd=d&st=0&ch=300&t=0&submit=Search

Also have a look through this search. Tony is usually insightful and experienced in things like this.

If there are no answers for you there, come back and tell us what you've tried. Otherwise, diagnosing the problem is pretty difficult when all we can see is a keyboard.

Are you trying to fire it up with the air box not plumbed to the turbo? If so, disconnect the Maf sensor and it will idle ok for test.

I'd be double checking for plugs that were unplugged for access. On mine we unplugged a few bits and pieces and moved stuff around near the power steering and water pumps and also over near the boost solenoid and scv - we were doing a few extra things though.

In addition to Tony and CD's suggestions, check all the fuses related to the fuel system and check for crimped or disconnected vacuum pipes.

Check the timing marks again.
When they are one tooth out they fire up for about 1 second, then the ecu shuts it down, should throw a code too.

Pump and left bank cam timing is critical and as coughy says, easy to put pump out as points not close if looking from angle above.

You can also be a tooth out in the timing if use the cam sprocket to turn the motor versus the crank.

The crank is the correct one to use as it turns the camshaft. We found this out just checking the timing.

Thanks for your help, somehow we broke 2 teeth of the crankshaft sprocket. Luckily wasn't expensive and now everything is working fine

Cheers!

That's what the starter motor is for, whilst the ground holds the breaker bar 8-)
