Is that what that stuff is used for... You learn something everyday on this forum.

My gay neighbours have some, so I'll be able to borrow theirs when I need to lube the hose. :? Never picked them as being mechanically inclined though...

The hoses are very tight - and KY is water based, so any excess washes off and dissapates in the cooling system. Using anything else, like silicone, never seize, WD40 all seem bad to me as they contaminate the cooling system, start electrolysis or rot the hoses... I've used KY for years on domestic appliances (washing machines, dishwashers - not self propelled 'domestic appliances') and the only drawback is the weird looks you get when you pull it out of your toolbag... We used neverseize on cooling system hoses on underground mining equipment - it meant we could always get them off for reuse; rather than a long walk back to the surface for spares.

Yep, love neverseize - but I had some electrolysis corrosion on the engine water spigots on my ZD30 Patrol and the only explanation I have is the nevere seize did it. I checked volts to the radiator, and there was no other water jacket corrosion in the engine - only a cracked head on ALL cylinders.... So I bought Triton!

Very cool tip Lekican. I would never have thought of that.

I think my old man must have the only ZD30 Patrol that is running without issue with over 200,000kms on the odo. He is a little nervous about it...

My patrol had 320,000 absolutely trouble free km on it - only regular basic servicing & a couple of belts/ tensioners/ batteries/ tyres. I still haven't had to put a set of brake pads into it! (and it's been everywhere)

And, then when we were attending a national youth training launch, dressed in suits etc., I saw a pool of green coolant forming under the slip joint in the exhaust system. The cause of the head cracks apopears to be regular overboosting, caused by a faulty VNC (boost) solenoid. Vehicle now has a boost gauge, EGT gauge and a Dawes valve (boost limiter). I want to fit a VNC turbo to the Triton (temporarally) to see what it can do, though my stock standard 3.2 Triton drive like my modified patrol, so it might not be worth the trouble
