Very wet air filter

Postby Eureka on Sun May 22, 2011 6:57 pm

absolutely drowned my air filter today, had water dripping out of it :o :o Engine survived OK though so lucky day for me.

However, can I just dry it out and keep using it or should it be replaced?

would think the water, even when dried out would severly restrict air flow.

Howd you manage that?
Do you have a snorkel Eureka?

I clearly remember Joe stating categorically that he prefers it in the bottom

I didn't say it was better in the bottom, I just said it was easier and quicker.

Paper filter or oiled filter?

I'm assuming paper.... Yes you can dry it out and refit it but I personally would be looking at replacement, the water (and mud too?) may have forced things which will be able to come through the filter now into the engine.

Now fess up and tell us what happened ;)
I'm not so good with the advice  ... Can I interest you in a sarcastic comment???

nothing too serious. was just following a mate thorugh some mud holes and trying to piss him off. He had a lifted Hilux with muddies (and a snorkel) and he was trying to get me bogged because I aced a hill that took him 6 goes

no snorkel but this scared the crap out of me.....could have got very expensive

replace it quickly. the water collapses the paper and can create holes.

its like a wet dunny roll. would you use that once it dried out? loses its integrity.
This car is like a bad drug habit. It is taking all my money and time, my family are concerned, but new mods just feel sooooooo good.

Classic. Can't say I've ever tried but then who has the time to dry out a soaked roll?

No need to go too in depth mate. A Uni filter or K & N work fine.

I prefer Uni, others prefer K & N, but I can't see there being too much difference ;)
I hate to advocate drugs, sex, alcohol, violence, or insanity to anyone, but they’ve always worked for me.

The K&N is about the same price as the Uni. I went the uni and haven't looked back. Also like the turbo noise out the snorkle. You also get a spare filter element & a bucket with the cleaning stuff....
