Price For 30K Service

Postby sam on Sun May 18, 2008 2:00 pm

Has anyone had a 30k service done yet and if so what was the cost :-)

I have been quoted $465.00 for it including valve clearance adjustment but I can't help but feel this is rather steep :o
Any info appreciated as the Lux's services seems heaps cheaper :(

do you get it serviced by mitsu? I have been getting my hiace serviced through a local guy since new who is far cheaper than toyota and will be taking the triton to him next week for its 7500 service, you don't have to take it to a dealer as long as you take it to a licenced/qualified mechanic and he uses the right bits all is well. Services on the hiace (06 model) have always been around $180/$220, it's going in for the 80,000 service next week for $240 (flush brake fluid + coolant) dealers are a ripoff and I personally would never take my car to a dealer for any work other than warranty claims

I paid $300 for my 30k at the stealer but was quoted as high as $750!

Valve clearance isn't all that necessary but they did it as part of the schedule. Really they should only need adjusting if noisey or ~100k kms.

I just had my 45k kms and my mate did it for $530 or so took him close to 3 hours so it was about $250 in labour 280 in oils and coolant. I do my own in between services at 7.5k etc and he stamps it for me but its about $130 for the filter and oil IIRC

Magilla, we're neck&neck in the k's - mine should be getting done the week after next

Sam, like AB says the valve clearances should only be checked if overly noisy (I think a lot of dealers do it as a matter of course just for the extra $$ :( )

Its always been serviced by the stealer, have got a pretty good relationship with them and they have looked after us pretty well but I'm going to ring around a bit this time and sus the price :(

subi it's not niosey at all but I thought that the clearances could tighten up as well and this is what causes valves to burn like they did in the old 3F landcruisers in the 80's :-) :o

Got mine serviced today dont know the cost yet, But I did mention to them about the steering knock every now and again and they have told me now they have ordered a new column to be fitted soon. Hey Subi we are racking up the K's 30000 in twelve months, most I have ever done in a year.

Its all that fishing you do subi , lucky bugger

I got told that the price for my service will be about $350 including getting the tappets done. But I have to take it back to get the tappets done as they reckon they do that on a cold motor, ? , without it for another day while they do that and replace the steering column. Then at some stage without it again for three to four days for some panel work.

Why are you taking it to a stealer? As long as they're registered mechanics you can go to whoever and they're usually better and more competitive since they don't rely on people who think they have to get serviced there.

Apparently the valve clearances CAN tighten up so that's why they do them at 30K to make sure they don't burn valves :o

So they need to be checked as they will be quieter not noisier ;)

Still don't get why the big diff in price, best i've had so far was $530 :(

[censored] that I'll have to check myself but its never been mentioned to me though I've never asked. I'll ring MMAL today if I get the chance but as far as I am aware they aren't allowed to stitch you in like that and as long as the work is done by an MTA registered shop its ok but the work is then warrantied by the shop i.e if they adjust your tappets wrong and that causes valve failure warranty with MMAL wont cover it.
^To receive ongoing free DIAMOND ROADSIDE ASSIST during the second and subsequent years (up to and including the fifth year of registration) the vehicle must have at least once scheduled (time or distance based) service per year performed by an authorised Mitsubishi Service Centre.
That's from the site mate. I'll have to find out how you validate your ongoing cover though.

Just got off the phone from MMAL and she told me that yes your car's assistance is valid until 2012 so I asked about the disclaimer I've posted there and she told me that if you don't get a stealer service within a 12 month period they will be notified and it will cease the assistance program.

I explained why I didn't trust my stealer to service my vehicle and that I do it myself and she told me that I should speak to one of the service managers and they should be able to validate it for me but she couldn't guarantee that would be the case. 8-)

I'm due to go pick up a part today so I'll see what the bell mits bloke says.
