Help needed for dual battery setup...

Postby JeepChallenger on Tue Jul 28, 2015 6:59 pm

Hi guys,

I am setting up a dual battery system in the car to run my fridge. Currently the plan is to run a Thumper 120AH AGM battery in a Projecta BPE330 battery box. Ally up the battery + battery box gonna be approx $350.

Now comes the tricky point: charging.... I can run an ABR VSR about $75 or a Projecta DC 20 dc to dc charger about $195. The sparky is happy to install all this for about $200 (includes cables, lugs, Anderson plug etc)....

Will the VSR destroy the battery? Is it necessary to go the dc dc charger or will the current from the alternator through the VSR be ok to charge the battery.....

BTW the car is a brand new Mitsubishi Challenger if that makes any difference.... I am preparing it for trips to places like Uluru and The Cape via the easy way, not the extremest roads...

Thanks for your help in advance.

Cheers
Mani

I went the vsr in my challenger. And then hooked it up to a 240v ctek charger every couple of months. Think I was getting 13.6 plus off the alternator and never had any dramas for the 4 years it was fitted. Have put the same battery and box in my triton, with a new vsr as I couldn't be bothered pulling it all out when I sold the pb

If work is so terrific, why do they have to pay us to do it?

Hi guys,

Time for an update.

Spent the tax money adn got a companion 45 Ltr fridge Freezer on special. Next comes a dual battery system. I ordered a CTek D250s Dual DC-DC Charger today. Gonna order a 120AH AGM battery and a battery box over the weekend. So will have all the stuff by the end of next week. Next job creating false floor to secure the fridge and the battery etc properly before going to the sparky to wire it all up. Just wanted to ask if the factory cargo tie downs have a nut under the body that I can use to secure the false floor. I dont have the budget for a fridge slide or drawer system at the moment as a bull bar and suspension is on higher priority. So I will be using a 1/2" sheet of plywood covered in carpet to create the floor. Anyone who has done it before if you can pls post some pictures of how you anchored the false floor or drawers to the cab.

Thanks a lot for all your help.

The screws in the floor can be used to secure a false floor. They are M8 but you will need longer bolts.
they come out with a bit of effort with a big screwdriver and hammer or impact wrench
